Have you ever wondered where fairytales begin? During day two of Netflix’s GEEKED WEEK 2022, we got our first look at The School for Good & Evil. Based on the novel of the same name by Soman Chainani, this is an epic fairy tale story brought to life by director Paul Feig. The film was originally under production with Universal Pictures before being taken over by Netflix in 2020. They have wasted no time in getting this story underway, and today they gave us our first look at the magic.
The School for Good & Evil follows best friends Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wylie). When they are whisked off to an enchanted school, they find themselves on opposing sides of a modern fairy tale. This school teaches young heroes and villains to protect the balance of good and evil. It will also test the bonds of their friendship as they navigate their new paths and attempt to find their way home.

The teaser for The School for Good & Evil introduces us to Sophie and Agatha as they are picked up and dropped off at the magical school. It’s magical yet mysterious as we see little easter eggs of other fairy tales like the glass slipper and the poisoned apple. We also get a quick look at Kerry Washington‘s Professor Clarissa Dovey and Charlize Theron‘s Lady Lesso. The stylistic choices that give this story a fairy tale feel with a modernized twist really jump off the screen.
We can’t help but be excited for this fairy tale to come to life. And every time we see bits and pieces, we fall even more in love. Alongside Caruso, Wylie, Washington and Theron, The School for Good & Evil will feature Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Flatters, Kit Young, Peter Serafinowicz, Earl Cave, Freya Theodora Parks, Dami Isaac Oviawe and Kaitlyn Akinpelumi. We will also be seeing Mark Heap, Brony Scarlett, Chinenye Ezeudu, Emma Lau, Ben Kingsley, Patti LuPone, Rob Delaney, Rachel Bloom, Rosie Graham and Joelle.
The School for Good & Evil will hit Netflix this September. Check out the first official teaser below. Have you read the novels? What are you most excited to see? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
