Dr. Steve looking out over Spiderhead.

During the second day of Netflix’s GEEKED WEEK 2022, we got a closer look at Spiderhead. This is a sci-fi thriller by director Joseph Kosinski and a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It is based on George Saunders’ 2010 short story Escape from Spiderhead. It’s trippy and mysterious and will have you on the edge of your seat. Plus, good guy Chris Hemsworth seems to have taken on the role of an evil scientist and from the first clip, he is perfect.

The exclusive clip for Spiderhead introduces us to a small piece of what we can expect from the full film. Hemsworth plays Steve Abnesti, a scientist working at a prison who is conducting experiments on volunteer prisoners. We watch as he experiments on Jeff (Miles Teller) and Heather (Tess Haubrich). Things start relatively normal. Steve asks the prisoners to judge each other’s appearances before injecting them with a drug that seems to alter their state of mind. The two go from being honest about each other to being unable to keep their hands off each other.

Spiderhead will follow Tellers’ character Jeff as he comes to care for another prisoner named Rachel (Jurnee Smollett) and tries to outmaneuver the experiments of the prison to save her. The clip takes the good guy Hemsworth that we know and love from the Marvel franchise and gives us someone completely different. He feels like just another scientist watching an experiment when we first see him. But as it goes on, we see a completely different side to him. He seems almost too happy to be drugging these prisoners and conducting these experiments.

The overall tone of Spiderhead feels exhilarating. We saw the trailer a few weeks ago, and it gave us the feel of Black Mirror. It starts off light and unsuspecting, but the further we travel down this road, the more twisted it becomes. We have so many questions that need to be answered! Thankfully, the film will hit Netflix on June 17, 2022. Check out the exclusive clip below. What are your theories? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
