It’s safe to say that if you play video games, you know about CD Projekt Red‘s Cyberpunk 2077. Now we aren’t here to debate opinions on the game itself; we are here to talk about an upcoming spin-off anime from Netflix. During today’s GEEKED WEEK 2022 animation showcase, we finally got to see the first teaser trailer, an exclusive clip and poster art for their upcoming series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The series comes from Studio Trigger, known for their work on Promare, Little Witch Academia and Kill la Kill.

The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners trailer doesn’t give us any real information about the series, but it looks freaking incredible. Trigger has done a phenomenal job recreating this world through animation. It screams Night City and has us excited to explore all of these characters. And the action? Flawless. Every little bit that we see within this trailer looks downright exciting. We had high hopes for the story, but after this trailer, it’s Trigger’s art style that has us hooked.

We get a bit more information surrounding Cypberpunk: Edgerunners from the exclusive clip shared. While we don’t hear any speaking, we watch as the main gang of the series faces off against Night City’s Maelstrom Gang. It’s gritty and everything we need from this world. The official synopsis explains that this will be a “10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology – and body – modification – obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to say alive by becoming an edge runner – a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”

Whatever your qualms with the actual playability of Cyberpunk 2077, we can’t ignore the fact that the story and world are incredible. And that is why choosing to tell spin-off stories within the universe is a must. This is just the first step toward exploring more and more of this world. Hopefully, when Cyberpunk: Edgerunners arrives in September, it will look as incredible as this trailer and exclusive clip. We have linked them below. What do you think so far?
