Continuing on the video game to an animated adaptation train, Netflix had another exciting announcement during today’s Drop Event. Legendary, Crystal Dynamics and Powerhouse Studios have come together to bring us Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. Netflix has been teasing the news within advertising for the event, and it’s exciting to see that we weren’t wrong.
This isn’t the first time Lara Croft has been brought to life. We have movies starring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who crush it in the role along with her own comics and books. And now, Netflix is giving us a Tomb Raider anime starring Hayley Atwell in the title role. The teaser is really nothing more than that. It features the prolific archeologist doing what she does best – hunting treasure. We have a few glimpses at possible storylines, including something tied heavily to her past.

We currently don’t know if Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will adapt any of the already published stories or be something entirely on its own. However, we are certain about one thing – it’s going to be epic. Netflix has proven that in the right hands, video game adaptations can be done right. Just look at the popularity of The Witcher and Castlevania. There is also something to say about the jump from video games to animated adaptations. While CGI and the ability to bring over-the-top moments to the screen have come a long way, some things just translate better in animation.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is set to hit Netflix in 2024. Check out the teaser below. What are your thoughts? What story do you hope they tell? Are you excited to see Atwell take the wheel? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
