During today’s Netflix Drop Event, we got the surprise of a lifetime. It’s no shock that Netflix continues to strike gold with its animated adaptations of our favorite video games. And the next on their list is DEVIL MAY CRY. In a surprise announcement, we got our first look at the upcoming series based on Capcom‘s beloved franchise.
While the teaser is a blink, and you might miss it, it is 30 seconds of pure intensity. We get a first look at the art style and how an animated Dante looks. The eight-episode series is headed by showrunner Adi Shankar, the brilliant mind behind Castlevania, and is written by Alex Larsen. Studio Mir will be handling the animation, and from the looks of the teaser, they are doing a phenomenal job.

DEVIL MAY CRY follows the same premise as the video game: the world is plunged into a battle against good and evil. Sinister forces are working to open a portal between the human and demon worlds, and one demon-hunting orphan holds the key to stopping them around his neck. It’s the ultimate clash as Dante faces off against some of the most terrifying demons the world has ever seen.
Longtime fans of the franchise have a lot to look forward to with the upcoming series. Shankar shares that he is “honored that Netflix and Capcom have entrusted me to shepherd the DEVIL MAY CRY franchise. Alex Larsen and I love these characters, we are part of the fandom, and vow to surpass the exceptionally high bar we set for ourselves.” Knowing that both the showrunner and writer are longtime fans gives us hope.
