The Netflix TV adaptation of LeSean Thomas’ Cannon Busters comic book has achieved release date. It’s been a long time coming. The announcement was made Sunday at the LA Anime Expo and on Twitter by Thomas, himself.
Cannon Busters has had a long road to Netflix. It was first published in 2005. After its soaring popularity, Thomas enlisted help to make it into a film with a Kickstarter campaign in 2014. Then, in 2017, Netflix announced that the film would be released on their streaming service as a series that year… which got pushed to 2018, shelved, and brought back to life! Whew. Deadline reported, Sunday.
“It’s based on a comic book that I drew, so very excited to have the opportunity to adapt it into an animated feature. Cannon Busters drops August 15 on Netflix.” – Cannon Busters series creator LeSean Thomas #AX2019 pic.twitter.com/3m5PZEInqi

Here’s the log line for the story: “Cannon Busters follows the adventures of S.A.M, a high-end friendship droid who’s joined by a quirky, discarded maintenance robot and a brash, deadly fugitive. Together, the unlikely trio embarks on an unforgettable journey in a fantastic and dangerous world in search of S.A.M’s best friend, the heir to a kingdom under siege.”
Netflix will start streaming Cannon Busters on August 15th.
