Fellow members of the ton, it is almost time. The second season of Netflix’s Bridgerton is right around the corner with all its passion, romance and drama. With just a few weeks left until we are transported back to Regency London, parties and, you guessed it – more drama, now is the perfect time to take a look at everything you need to remember and know. Like who the main love interests are for this season and what secrets from season one may be spilling over into season two.
DISCLAIMER: Bridgerton is based on the novels of the same name written by Julia Quinn. This means that all of the secrets are already out in the world, so be careful what you google. This primer is also going to contain spoilers for season one of the series and possible spoilers for season two. Dance forward carefully, my friends and if you haven’t watched it, check out the series here!

New Love Interests

Season one of Bridgerton followed closely to Quinn’s novel The Duke and I, which focused on the love story between Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page). By the end of the season one finale, our two unlikely soulmates finally got their happily ever after and welcomed the birth of their first child. And while yes, we would love to see more of the Duke and his smolder, season two is taking things in another direction. This time, the season will focus on the events of The Viscount Who Loved Me, which brings Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) to the forefront. With his father Edmund (Rupert Evans) casting, I feel this one will be a tear-jerker.
So far, from trailers and teaser images, we know that Anthony has made a list of the perfect qualities for a wife. He has no intention of marrying for love, as he so thoughtfully pointed out at the end of last season. Instead, he is looking for someone who meets an absurd list of requirements. And it seems like he has decided that newly returned Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran) is the best candidate. Except that her sister Kate (Simone Ashley) isn’t about to let Anthony sweep Edwina off her feet when she doesn’t think he is worthy. This leads to some of the best banter I have ever read and I do not doubt that Bailey and Ashley will bring it to life on screen.

But what is a love story without a bit of drama? One thing weighing heavy on Anthony’s shoulders at the end of Bridgerton season one is his failed relationship with Siena (Sabrina Bartlett). Will her new protector be enough, or will she try and push her way back into Anthony’s life again? If she does, how will this affect his search for the perfect wife? I can’t imagine that Kate will be okay with Anthony marrying her sister and keeping around an opera singer. I can already hear the smart remarks and banter born of this drama. And we know how much I love their banter.
Bridgerton Siblings

The wonderful thing about Shondaland and Chris Van Dusen‘s take on Bridgerton is that while each season focuses on one book, it also introduces other characters and what is going on in their lives. We got quite a bit about Anthony, Benedict (Luke Thompson), Colin (Luke Newton) and Eloise (Claudia Jessie) during season one and I suspect that will continue. Colin has arguably been through the most upsetting drama outside of Anthony after he almost marries Marina Thompson (Ruby Barker) before the world found out that she was unwed and pregnant. I suspect we might see more of how he is faring and maybe even see his and Penelope’s (Nicola Coughlan) friendship grow.
Benedict, the second son of the Bridgerton family, got quite a bit of screentime as well. His struggle to find a place for himself in the world brings him closer to his love for art. And with each of the seasons following in the book order, Benedict would be the main love interest in season three. While we might not get a glimpse at Sophie in this season, chances are we are going to see quite a bit of setup for their love story. Plus, I would love for the series to explore more of the art world in Regency London and Henry Granville’s (Julian Ovenden) character.

Now to my favorite Bridgerton character – Eloise. At the end of season one, our knowledge-seeking darling was (reluctantly) following in Daphne’s footsteps and preparing herself for her first season. And while her happily ever after doesn’t come until book five of the series, I am sure we are going to get quite a lot of build-up on her end. Plus, we can’t forget that she was playing inspector for the Queen (Golda Rosheuvel) and on the hunt for Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews). What will she say when she learns that her best friend, Penelope, is the one behind everything?
And we can’t forget the other siblings, Francesca (Ruby Stokes), Gregory (Will Tilston) and Hyacinth (Florene Hunt). They are still reasonably young, but I am sure we are going to start seeing a lot more of them now that we are checking off the happily ever afters of the older half of the Bridgerton clan. I just wonder how they will all play into the current events and if we are going to start to see their own stories forming years before their seasons take place.
The Featheringtons

The second biggest family outside of the Bridgertons who happen to live across the street are The Featheringtons. And boy, did they have a rough first season. Matriarch Lady Portia (Polly Walker) had to put all three daughters, Prudence (Bessie Carter), Philippa (Harriet Cains) and Penelope, out into society at the same time along with Marina Thompson. Let’s just say Lady Portia was not having a good time. Tie that in with Lord Featherington’s (Ben Miller) gambling habit and eventual death at the end of season one; things aren’t remotely looking good for any of them.
At least Marina’s pregnancy drama has found an answer in the form of marrying Sir Philip Crane (Chris Fulton) and maybe we will get the chance to see how they are faring in season two. Plus, after Lord Featherington makes enough money to pay for a few doweries, it seems like Penelope’s sisters might be on the road to marriage. Except that money is gone with his death. And now, we have a mysterious man coming to take over the household. What will happen to them? Will he kick them out? Let them stay and support them financially? Who knows? This is new territory outside the book.

And we can’t talk about the Featheringtons without talking about the most popular one of all – Penelope. We love her just as much as you, but she is in a bit of hot water. Her best friend, the Queen and all of the ton are trying to uncover the secret behind Lady Whistledown. And it isn’t to reward our girl. It’s to tear her down and smear her name for good. You would think this would scare Penelope, but the teasers show us that she isn’t backing down without a fight. Will her secret get uncovered this season? Or will Penelope be prepared for anything?
The Rest

Bridgerton took the world by storm and honestly, I don’t think it is stopping anytime soon. Season one introduced additional storylines that don’t appear in Quinn’s novels, including the Duke’s friend and training partner Will (Martins Imhangbe). At the end of season one, he throws his boxing match for Lord Featherington so they can both make quite a bit of fast cash. Is he safe from the same people who came for Lord Featherington? I can’t imagine that they will just sit by and let Will continue down this path.
The series also gave us more of a look at the Queen and her royal court. Between this Lady Whistledown business, her sick husband and trying to hold it all together, I have so much empathy for her. I wonder what they have in store for the Queen in season two. We know that we will get a spin-off prequel series featuring her alongside Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell). But, I can’t imagine these fierce ladies taking a backseat in season two. We absolutely love Lady Danbury’s pearls of wisdom, even if she does deliver them with a knock of her cane.
And finally, we have two new characters in season two that we still don’t know a lot about. Theo Sharpe (Calam Lynch) is a printer’s assistant who fights for justice. He could possibly be tied to Penelope and her Lady Whistledown business. Or he could be someone Eloise meets on her quest to fight for equal rights between both sexes. Second, we have Jack (Rupert Young), who is only listed as being the newest member of the ton with a connection to one of the most notable families. Are the Featheringtons notable? Could he be their new heir? Or are we going to see another family enter the playing field?
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long. Season two of Bridgerton is set to waltz onto Netflix starting March 25, 2022. Who are you most excited to see and why is it, Newton? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
