Ah, the month of love is upon us! Time to bust out the heart shaped cookie cutters, the pink and red glitter, and gorge on chocolate covered strawberries…. Well, maybe not all at once, moderation is important. February is traditionally viewed as the month to celebrate relationships, so why not take a moment to consider your relationship with Netflix? Whether you will be single or partnered up for Valentine’s Day makes no difference to Netflix; it loves you just as you are because you share something special. That special bond could be over weepy, romcoms and a tub of ice cream or explosive action flicks with a bag of popcorn. The greatest part is, Netflix has something for everyone and it is always trying to make you happy.
Well, for the most part. Things do have to change once in a while and that means shows must leave the lineup to make room for new goodies. Say goodbye to Tim Burton favorites Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas, Burn Notice‘s burned spy Michael Westen (Jeffery Donovan), and Seth MacFarlane‘s animated Family Guy. Get ready to welcome back Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black, who are joined by the American Pie franchise, the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy (gearing up for Ocean’s Eight?), and a slew of Netflix Originals. Below is the full list of what is coming and going, but first, here are a few highlighted suggestions for your viewing pleasure:
DreamWorks Dragons: Race to the Edge
First up, for the kids, Season 6 of DreamWorks’ Dragons: Race to the Edge will fly in just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend celebrations! Relax out on your date knowing that your little one and the babysitter are adventuring with Hiccup (Jay Baruchel, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) and Toothless. The new season’s trailer has yet to drop, so there is no telling what excitement awaits just yet. Catch the Season 5 trailer above and mark your calendar for Season 6 to arrive on Friday, February 16th.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
With the new Lara Croft film reboot, Tomb Raider, coming soon, why not rewatch the Angelina Jolie film from 2001? Sure, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider might not have been the best video game adaptation of all time, but did it need to be? It pulled a popular video game franchise to the big screen and gave the summer a bit of fun adventure with gorgeous views. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider comes to Netflix on February 1st.

The Frankenstein Chronicles
The Frankenstein Chronicles is not your typical Frankenstein story. This British crime drama draws inspiration from Mary Shelley‘s Frankenstein, but is notably different as it re-imagines the world Shelley created. The show stars Sean Bean as river police officer Inspector John Marlott, who works to find the person responsible for the body he finds that is made up of many parts of missing children. The first two seasons, a grand total of 12 episodes, come to Netflix on February 20th.

Altered Carbon
Based on the book by Richard K. Morgan, this Netflix Original brings to life a dystopian future where a person’s consciousness can be digitized and downloaded into another body. Altered Carbon is highly anticipated, cyberpunk murder mystery starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, House of Cards), and the (NSFW) trailer can be watched HERE. Altered Carbon joins Netflix’s lineup on February 2nd.
From Netflix:
Based on the classic cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent. Takeshi Kovacs is the lone surviving soldier in a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned – on ice – for centuries until Laurens Bancroft, an impossibly wealthy, long-lived man, offers Kovacs the chance to live again. In exchange, Kovacs has to solve a murder … that of Bancroft himself.

Kill Bill
Quentin Tarantino‘s Kill Bill, both Vol 1 and Vol 2, brings a little violent action to February. The two films have a cult following for Tarantino’s story and Uma Thurman‘s character, The Bride. The Bride seeks revenge on her former colleagues after their failed attempt to kill her on her wedding day. It has been years since that day, having been in a coma, but her rage burns hot and her sword is sharp. Enjoy the visceral carnage of a woman scorned – perhaps this is the perfect film set to watch this love-holiday if you happen to have recently caught your (now ex-)boyfriend cheating?
Kill Bill comes to Netflix on February 1st.
