At the beginning of High Spirits Neoma, Neoma and her family have moved to a new place to investigate the rise in cursed spirits. As a daughter of the Moon Clan, she has the ability to cleanse cursed energy and allow spirits to find peace in the afterlife. It’s her duty to assist her family in seeking out the cause of the increase in disturbances and putting an end to them.
But that isn’t the only mystery in the series. Neoma has her own struggles, both spiritual and high school-related. During the day, she attempts to navigate life in a new city, making friends and learning what it means to live for herself. At night, and anytime her grandfather is looking, she is focused on honing her skills and helping her family.

Thankfully, Neoma isn’t left to face this alone. Her new friend Matteo has her back and will support her through everything. She also has her father, mother and extended relatives to give her guidance. But is all of it enough to help it forward? The weight of the entire clan rests on her shoulders, and one can only wonder if she will stay strong under it.

Neoma Cruz is the real deal. She’s sassy, stylish and dedicated—maybe to a fault at times. Neoma is determined to live up to her grandfather’s expectations and help with her family’s job. This determination sometimes makes her ignore things right in front of her like her classmates attempting to become her friends or others offering her a shoulder to lean on.
Neoma works hard to practice her skills and help others. When she discovers that Matteo is clairvoyant, she does everything she can to support him. Then, when a classmate worries that a ghost is haunting her horse, she agrees to stay the night and investigate. Whether it’s a ghost or a friend asking for help, Neoma is determined to make everything right whenever possible.

Why She Matters:
Why does Neoma Cruz matter? She is an incredible role model for young girls, determined to help everyone around her and continue to better herself. But that isn’t all. With every new WEBTOON series, we see continued growth in diversity. High Spirits Neoma is packed with it, and Neoma leads the way. The series falls into the supernatural and mystery genres, historically dominated by white male leads. There is something for everyone to love and connect with throughout each chapter and even more to come.
