The novel American Gods by Neil Gaiman (A MUST READ – and not just for genre fans. It’s a must read for Fiction/ Literature fans) received a full series order at Starz. Bryan Fuller and Michael Green are set to executive produce and serve as showrunners. Neil Gaiman will also be an Executive Producer.

Okay, now that I’ve spit out that news I need to tell  you – my mind is going CRAZY!!! Who is writing the adaptation? What will the art direction be like? Who is playing Wednesday? Who is playing Laura? WHO IS PLAYING SHADOW??????? Shadow Moon is one of the best characters ever written in the history of writing and my brain is swimming with who will be worthy of this role. I may have to do a separate post on that. GAH!!!

On the writing front, the show is in great hands. Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, Star Trek: Voyager) and Michael Green (Kings, Heroes, Smallville) will be writing the script. In a statement the duo said, “Almost 15 years ago, Neil Gaiman filled a toy box with gods and magic, and we are thrilled to finally crack it open and play. We’re grateful to have Starz above us and FremantleMedia at our backs as we appease the gods, American or otherwise.”

In American Gods, gods and mythological creatures exist because people believe in them. Immigrants to the US brought many gods to the New World with them. However, the power of these mythological beings has diminished as people’s beliefs wane. New gods have arisen, reflecting America’s obsessions with media, celebrity, technology, and drugs, among others.

Shadow is a man with a past. But now he wants nothing more than to live a quiet life with his wife and stay out of trouble. Until he learns that she’s been killed in a terrible accident.

Flying home for the funeral, as a violent storm rocks the plane, a strange man in the seat next to him introduces himself. The man calls himself Mr. Wednesday, and he knows more about Shadow than is possible.

He warns Shadow that a far bigger storm is coming. And from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same… –Amazon

Back in July, when the project was first announced, Fuller said, ” Michael Green and I are thrilled to crack this toy box wide open and unleash the fantastical titans of heaven and Earth and Neil’s vividly prolific imagination.”

Gaiman also had some words to share, “I am thrilled, ‎scared, delighted, nervous and a ball of glorious anticipation. The team that is going to bring the world of ‘American Gods’ to the screen has been assembled like the master criminals in a caper movie: I’m relieved and confident that my baby is in good hands. Now we finally move to the exciting business that fans have been doing for the last dozen years: casting our Shadow, our Wednesday, our Laura.”
