Bronwyn in Season 1
Say it isn’t so. Unfortunately, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Nazanin Boniadi won’t return for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2. Boniadi plays human healer Bronwyn in Season 1 of the mega-hit Prime Video fantasy series. She’s the mother of Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) and the lover of Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova).
Bronwyn helps the villagers of Tirharad escape the Orcs and joins the fight to defeat Adar (Joseph Mawle). During the battle, Mount Doom erupts, turning the Southlands into ash (which Adar aptly names Mordor).

Thankfully, Bronwyn survives the explosion. Toward the end of the season, Bronwyn embarks on a long journey to lead her people to settle in Pelargir.
Why Nazanin Boniadi Won’t Be in Season 2
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Boniadi posted to Instagram on May 8 that she had “stepped away from acting in September 2022, to focus solely on the #WomanLife Freedom uprising in Iran” and “to advocate for the people of my homeland who have been risking everything for freedom.” She also shared her upcoming project in the post, a dramedy called A Mosquito in the Ear, which is now in post-production.

Fans noted Bronwyn’s absence from the recent teaser trailer. As for the actors involved in her Season 1 arc, Córdova and Muhafidin are confirmed to return for the upcoming episode-eight second season.
While I’m sad to learn that Boniadi will not reprise her role, it does the heart good to know there are folks fighting tooth and nail to elevate the marginalized. I’m curious to see how the season addresses her departure.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 premieres only on Prime Video on August 29, 2024.
