We at GGA love nerds and geeks so much! We are everywhere. We are in every corner of every part of the world occupying every job. And, we are in NASA, where scientists/Star Trek fans recently discovered a formation in space with an ‘uncanny’ resemblance to the Starship Enterprise. Yes. Make it so.

Cnet.com reported Friday that the Chandra X-ray Observatory team spotted a galaxy cluster collision that made them think very fondly on their fandom. In a very dramatic event, two galaxy clusters (several galaxies held together by gravity) smashed into each other. The result, turbulence and shockwaves sent blasting through space, gave the Chandra X-Ray Observatory something to look at. The composite image is a combination of X-ray, radio and optical data. And, it gives us a good look at a very Enterprise shaped cloud of blue gas.
While the scientists identified the shape of the Enterprise, seen in profile with the star drive section on the far left and the disc section in the middle, they did not work on what the cloud on the right might be. I prefer to see this as not only a collision of galaxies, but of universes. It looks to me like this is the Enterprise’s first encounter with an Acanti, Purrgil, Leviathan or other type of space whale on the right. It’s going warp speed, right across narratives. Even in our minds, the USS Enterprise is going boldly where no one has gone before!
Thanks for keeping an eye out, NASA!
