The CW’s Naomi returns this week with “Fellowship of the Disc.” The eighth episode in the series’s first season starts with a double date between Naomi (Kaci Walfall), Nathan (Daniel Puig), Annabelle (Mary-Charles Jones) and Jacob (Aidan Gemme). Naomi hears voices after their mini-golf win. She masks it by telling Annabell she’s fine.

Back at home, Naomi recreates her parents’ favorite meal from their honeymoon in France to celebrate their anniversary. Both Jennifer (Mouzam Makkar) and Greg (Barry Watson) express concerns about the anniversary celebration Naomi is planning for them. She overhears them discussing a potential move and her safety.

While telling Annabelle, Naomi believes that leaving may be the best course of action with all the danger surrounding them. After school, she trains with Dee (Alexander Wraith). Zumbado (Cranston Johnson) interrupts, expressing his displeasure in how Dee is training her. He encourages the use of her powers to train instead.

When she arrives home, she finds someone stole the disc she’s keeping in her room. Later, she admits to Annabelle that neither her parents nor Zumbado or Dee know about the stolen disc. Naomi vows to handle this on her own, while Annabelle offers to help. Jacob overhears the two talking about hunting aliens. He volunteers believing them to be speaking of the explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs. Jacob reveals that it’s believed that S.T.A.R. Labs has technology for detecting aliens. He also informs the two of his own prototypes for this.

Zumbado calls Naomi for a training session to test her abilities.

For community service week, Nathan and Anthony (Will Meyers) work for Lourdes’s (Camila Moreno) comic book store. They discover from Lourdes the store isn’t doing so well, and they try to help without her approval.

Naomi returns to S.T.A.R. Labs, looking for the alien detection technology. She encounters Jacob, who is also looking for the same technology. The lab is desolate and the two discover a hard drive. Jacob learns of Naomi’s abilities when she has to save him from being crushed.

The two agree to work together on the hard drive, but she swears Jacob to secrecy. She asks him not to tell Annabelle that he knows about her secret. Jacob and her combine his prototype and the S.T.A.R. Labs technology to track aliens.

Zumbado confronts Dee about Naomi’s training, and they come to blows. Eventually, they come to an agreement on how best to train Naomi by working together.

Naomi and Jacob believe they’ve found an alien, but they were tracking an energy signature rather than a person. The two discover a storage unit filled with Naomi’s old things and a go-bag. Her parents later explain that this has always been a safety precaution over the years.

Annabelle and Naomi argue about Naomi’s decisions to shut her out of all alien business. Later, at the McDuffie’s anniversary party, the two talk it over. Naomi agrees to keep her in the loop.

Jacob recalibrates the device, relaying to Naomi and Annabelle that the alien they are looking for is at the party.

This episode leaves so much to unpack. I was happy to see Lourdes again. We get to see her forming friendships, not just as Naomi’s friend but also learning to let Jacob and Anthony in as friends.

I loved Naomi’s inner struggle during this episode. She spent most of the episode battling the fear of letting her best friend in and keeping her out of harm’s way. I’m glad Annabelle spoke up. There was no way I could see her bowing out to stay safe when she was running toward danger.

I’m excited for next week to see if we discover who this alien is in attendance at the party.

I also loved the Lord of the Rings references tonight.

Naomi airs Tuesdays at 9 pm on The CW. You can stream it the next day on The CW app.
