The CW’s Naomi Season 1 episode 12, “Ready or Not,” gives us some long-awaited answers and sets us up for the last episode.

The episode opens with Naomi (Kaci Walfall) dreaming of the moment her adoptive parents rescued her from Earth-29. Once she’s away, she overhears the adults discussing leaving Port Oswego. Naomi disagrees, but in this unprecedented moment, Zumbado (Cranston Johnson), Greg (Barry Watson), Jennifer (Mouzam Makkar), Dee (Alexander Wraith) and Akira (Stephanie March) agree to move would be best.

Naomi eats lunch alone at school, but Anthony (Will Meyers) joins her. He shows her his plans for a “Superman Three Months Later” article. She declines being interviewed or doing cross-promotion with her site, concerning Anthony.

Later, she visits Akira, revealing when she touches objects, she gets visions. Naomi pleads with Akira for an alternative to leaving. Akira tells Naomi of a power source that can amplify her abilities, but she doesn’t know where to find it. She gives Naomi a locket, believing it to be the key to finding the power source. The touch of the locket gives Naomi a vision of a field.

This vision sends Naomi and Annabelle (Mary-Charles Jones) on a road trip to find this field in Nevada. While at a diner, Naomi sees a man with red eyes, prompting them to leave. In their retreat, Annabelle’s car overheats.

Anthony attempts to interview Lourdes (Camila Moreno), and instead, they end up on a quest for the truth about Naomi’s weird behavior. They agree to start their investigation with Dee, who confessed to planning the Superman stunt. The two confront Dee about it and Akira. Zumbado intercepts and thwarts their investigation.

Greg and Jennifer disagree with Akira on what’s best for our titular heroine.

While waiting for her car to be repaired, Annabelle and Naomi get a motel room. As they talk, with Annabelle giving her advice on practically being Superman 2.0, Naomi gets a vision of the man searching for them in the motel room. She pulls the fire alarm with quick thinking, and the two escape.

Once they find the field, they are unsure of their next steps. The man with red eyes attacks Naomi, and when she uses her arms to shield herself, she realizes she’s invincible. His daggers break against her skin. After he retreats, Naomi combines the disc and the necklace to reveal a door in the middle of the field.

Going through the door, Naomi realizes she’s on Earth-29. Naomi sees the shadow outline of the essence of her parents. Although they can’t give her answers to what happened to her, they tell her she is the power source who can save their world. They advise she needs all the 29 and their help. Her parents warn her to trust no one because someone betrayed them.

Despite Zumbado’s warnings to stop the investigation, Anthony and Lourdes continue. They find Naomi’s space rock in the forest and are attacked. Zumbado and Dee save them, with Dee showcasing his wings. Anthony and Lourdes get answers from Dee, revealing that neither is from this planet.

Mac (Briana Venskus) visits Dee, offering to help him find Qyeala in exchange for a favor.

This episode threw some curveballs! Our girl has her invincibility, which was an incredible ability to see. She’s coming into her own as a hero, and I enjoy watching this progression in her.

She and Annabelle had a moment when Annabelle laid out the facts. The comics she reads are like an Instagram snapshot of Superman’s life. He very well could have had moments where he was unsure of himself.

Though it’s late in the season, I’m glad Anthony and Lourdes find out the secret. Sometimes not knowing is worse than knowing. Danger presents itself either way.

My favorite part of the episode was Naomi getting to speak with the essence of her parents. They gave us a plot twist in the form of a traitor to them, and I can’t wait to see who it is.

Naomi airs Tuesdays at 9 pm on The CW. You can stream it the next day on The CW app.
