Mythic Quest Season 4 Episode 10, “Heaven and Hell,” is a bonkers ending for the season. Not only will the workplace dynamic change drastically for everyone in a potential Season 5, but Ian and Poppy kissed. They kissed. To be fair, Season 4 boasted pretty heavy romantic undertones for them. Thankfully, the build-up to this kiss is organic, and Ian and Poppy’s reactions to it indicate we might not go all-in on a GrimPop romance in Season 5. That said, it’s a hot kiss. I got major Nick and Jess on New Girl vibes, which has always been the hottest sitcom kiss to me.

Mythic Quest, “Heaven and Hell”
We open with David (David Hornsby) showing the Elysium expansion to Brad (Danny Pudi), Dana (Imani Hakim), Rachel (Ashly Burch) and Jo (Jessie Ennis). They all believe it’s brilliant. Naturally, Brad envisions the monetization opportunities, and they are endless.
Dana views herself as the greatest coder of her generation, but working alongside Poppy would make her the greatest coder of any generation. Rachel hopes this opportunity will serve to rehab her image after that disastrous Congressional hearing. David is bringing back the A-team, but only if they’ll remain on their best behavior when Jacques and Jean-Luc from Montreal show up. They must sell Montreal on the expansion to save the studio.

Objectives and Motives and Flights
Jo reveals she has a different objective. Sure, she’ll assist David as it benefits her; however, her ultimate goal is to become Jacques and Jean-Luc’s assistant. It’s her darkest, deepest wish. David urges Rachel to take a vow of silence during Montreal’s visit. Brad notes David’s hypocrisy in calling everyone out for being selfish and egotistical when he persuaded a very pregnant woman to keep working.

Meanwhile, Ian (Rob McElhenney) visits Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao). He wonders why she’s still there. Ian encourages her to hop on a plane bound for the Netherlands. Let David pack up her belongings. They acknowledge Ian’s resignation from the company. He admits that working beside her empty desk is his personal hell. If Pops was honest with herself, wouldn’t she say the same thing?

Poppy asks why Ian can’t change. Everyone else does. At one point, Poppy makes a funny, which Ian addresses. It’s rare for Ian to compliment Poppy on her ability to crack jokes. Therefore, the loop is complete, so there’s nothing left for her here. Ian admits that if moving to the Netherlands to start a family with Storm makes her happy, he’s happy. Ian offers to drive her to the airport.
Jean-Georges
Later, David learns that Jacques and Jean-Luc won’t meet at MQ. Instead, they’ve sent their assistant, Jean-Georges. Jo gasps. She explains that he’s been the go-between for Jacques and Jean-Luc, who are stepbrothers, since Jacques slept with Jean-Luc’s wife. Or vice versa. She’s been cultivating a friendship with Jean-Georges via email for six months with the mission to overtake his job.

Suddenly, the elevator doors open. The gang gathers round, believing it’s Jean-Georges. However, it’s Carol (Naomi Ekperigin), and she’s hungover. That’s what happens when you binge Merlot and K-dramas all night. David pulls her aside to address her romantic entanglements with the testers. Carol brushes him off, claiming she’d rather be watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo at home. I get it, girl.

Burst the Bubble
Jean-Georges (Andy LeBuhn) materializes behind David, scaring him. Meanwhile, Ian drives Poppy to the airport. She’s bringing her new art piece as her carry-on item. She asks Ian to interpret it. He believes it represents something cute and fragile that’s liable to explode. Poppy mulls this over, revealing that wasn’t her intent behind the piece.
Then, she goes into panic mode. What if moving to the Netherlands doesn’t pan out? She acknowledges that Storm doesn’t seem thrilled about having a baby. Ian gives her a pep talk. He tells her that Storm is a great guy. She deserves to live life. She doesn’t have to be the machine anymore.

Next, David introduces the team to Jean-Georges before the latter turns to Jo, asking if they speak French. Jo is fluent, which checks out. Jean-Georges insults the group in French. He adds that Montreal is concerned, so something must change here.

Fates in the Balance (and Sex Dreams)
Jo replies that they can all help each other out. Jean-Georges reminds her that friends don’t try to steal jobs. He knows about her quest to become Jacques and Jean-Luc’s assistant. “These people’s fates are in my hands,” Jean-Georges remarks. Uh-oh.
Elsewhere, Mikey (Michael Naughton) and Andy (Andrew Friedman) enter Carol’s office to apologize for their behavior. They’ve buried the hatchet. Carol believes they don’t need to stop seeing each other. There’s enough Carol to go around. She proposes they kick things off as a threesome with Mikey and Andy kissing. They awkwardly acknowledge that they’ve thought about it before. Carol wakes up before they kiss, though. She laughs, then realizes she might need therapy. I love Carol.

A New Era Begins
After this, Jean-Georges leaves, but not before telling the group in English that “a new era begins.” Jo explains that while Montreal loves the expansion, they’re not happy with management. The solution? Jo is now the head of Playpen. So, on paper, she and David are equals. However, in practice, she’s his boss. Jo is heartbroken. This new promotion derails her ambitions to be the world’s greatest assistant.
Later, Brad calls Anna (Karolina Szymczak) to reveal he’s had a change of heart. A lucrative opportunity at our titular game studio has presented itself. As a token of their time together, Brad sends Anna a penny to her hotel room. A nice callback to episode five and Anna’s introduction. Then, Brad asks to see data on the screen — any data will do. He disposes of Anna’s malware, having never used it.

Then, Ian drops Poppy off at the airport. He acknowledges that he picked Poppy up here 15 years ago. We’ve come full circle. They embrace before Ian drives away.

Glimmer of Hope
However, their time apart is short-lived. Poppy returns to the office to find Ian trying to log onto his computer. He can’t recall the password. He admits he’s there to work. Poppy got a notification from Version Control while in the air about someone logging onto the computer. She faked going into labor so the plane would turn around and land. Then, when the ambulance arrived, she claimed it was a false alarm before fleeing. Homegirl’s on every list now.
Ian reveals the Elysium expansion is all he has left of Poppy, so he’s returning to MQ. However, he kept his desire to return to himself so Poppy would board the plane. She realizes he did the right thing for once and didn’t want any credit for it. Poppy came back because she saw a “glimmer of hope” that they could make it work.
They embrace. After Poppy breaks the hug, Ian pulls her into a kiss. Poppy smooches him back. Then, they abruptly pull away, realizing what just happened. Poppy looks equal parts shocked, terrified and potentially repulsed.
I guess we’ll find out next season where she and Ian actually stand on it.
