MY LADY JANE Recap: (S01E07) Another Girl, Another Planet

Guildford and Jane are restrained and forced to kneel in the crowded courtroom on My Lady Jane Season 1 Episode 7, "Another Girl, Another Planet."

With the light of dawn illuminating the first moments of My Lady Jane Season 1 Episode 7, “Another Girl, Another Planet,” Guildford (Edward Bluemel) in human form watches from the shore as Jane (Emily Bader) is forced onto her knees.

Seymour (Dominic Cooper) removes her crown and hands it to Mary (Kate O’Flynn). Mary crowns herself and tells Jane, “You lose.”

My Lady Jane’s “Another Girl, Another Planet”

Seymour struts into the throne room and announces Queen Mary’s entrance. She walks to the throne and addresses the room, assuring them that she is fearless as their queen.

In a less grand voice, she points out that treachery has consequences, looking at Frances (Anna Chancellor) and her daughters. Mary pronounces that Jane Grey will be beheaded.

Jane is escorted on horseback to the Grey home. She finds the household servants crying. She tries to cheer them up. Under house arrest, the narrator reveals that she has no plan for the first time in her life.

Sisters

Mary fetches Bess (Abbie Hern) from her room and commands her to cheer up. She wants Bess by her side, but if she ever forgets that Mary is queen, the queen will have her beheaded, too.

Frances tells Margaret (Robyn Betteridge) and Katherine (Isabella Brownson) that all is not lost. She believes they can still survive Mary if they play the game. Frances prides herself on her gamesmanship.

The Return of the King

Edward (Jordan Peters) arrives at the castle, but the guards don’t recognize him and don’t believe he’s the king. Fitz (Joe Klocek) watches from a distance and rescues Edward before things go too far.

One of the maids, Kitty (Fanta Barrie), brings Jane some food and information. Jane assures her that she intends to keep her head.

Frances begs Mary for leniency for Jane. Mary denies her. Jane will be executed. However, she will make Margaret a lady-in-waiting as a reward for telling them about Jane’s plans, giving them time to escape and rally the army.

No Lady Mother

Frances unleashes a horrific tirade on Margaret upon returning to their rooms. Despite Margaret’s protestations that it wasn’t on purpose, Frances kicks her out. Katherine follows and tries to comfort her, but Margaret wants to be left alone. The narrator points out, “That’s the funny thing about children. The way you talk to them is the way they talk to themselves. And the voice in your head is the one you tend to believe.”

At a feast, Mary raises a toast to the death of Jane Grey. Norfolk (Will Keen) interjects and tells her Jane Grey must stand trial. Executing her without process would spark riots. Seymour reluctantly agrees with Norfolk.

Bess speaks up as well, pointing out Jane has supporters. Mary swears she’ll eradicate any of them as well as the Ethians. Petunia (Tallulah Greive) takes the opportunity to turn human and attack Mary, but Mary shields herself with her goblet. Petunia changes into a dog, and Bess tells her to run. Mary names Bess a traitor and declares they are no longer sisters.

Stan (Henry Ashford) and Lord Dudley (Rob Brydon) are hiding out in a safe house in the woods. Guildford seeks them out and proposes they rescue Jane. Dudley refuses to help.

The Kingsland Guards deliver a dress to Jane to wear for her trial. The idea of a trial kindles something in Jane. She starts preparing her case. 

Getting a Pint

Fitz brings Edward to an underground tavern. Edward’s super excited. When a drunkard at the bar is cut off, he transforms into a bat and flies into a wall. Edward realizes they’re in an Ethian pub.

Edward asks Fitz why they’re there. Fitz says there’s a regular patron who might be able to get Edward into the palace.

Swoonworthy Bravado 

Guildford stakes out the Grey house to rescue Jane. He evades the guards and climbs in her window. He wakes her up. They kiss until she remembers that he left her. They continue kissing. Quietly.

Jane won’t run away with him because Mary will kill her family. She won’t let Guildford stay either because that’ll put him in danger.

They make love for what may be the last time. Afterward, Jane broaches the topic of Guildford’s mother’s death. He tells her it was his fault. He doesn’t remember changing that first time but believes that he killed her by accident. The fact he’s never been able to control his change makes him think it’s his curse.

They bid a tearful goodbye. A guard comes in, and Jane distracts him until Guildford can get away.

In the pub, Fitz recognizes the contact. Edward turns and sees it’s Charles (Christian Patterson). Charles agrees to help save Jane.

Mary summons Frances and appoints her the Groom of the Stool. Margaret, dressed as a mini-Mary, is delighted to see her mother so uncomfortable. It turns out it was Margaret’s idea.

Dudleys Never Say Die

A drunken Stan tries to follow Guildford to London to be brave. He confronts Dudley about how ashamed he’s been of Guildford’s Ethianism. Dudley admits he’s afraid. 

Jane rides to her trial and walks into the throne room carrying her books. Mary arrives, looking for Seymour, who is conspicuously absent. The trial proceeds with Norfolk prosecuting the case.

Charles brings clothes out for Edward and Fitz. Edward notices that Fitz isn’t changing. Fitz tells him this is where they part ways. 

Loyal and Good

Norfolk goes on at length, accusing Jane of false imagination and pretending to the crown using her abolition of Division Laws as proof. Jane speaks up to refute the accusation of false imagination. She points out that Edward named her heir to the crown in his will without her knowledge. So, she had a right to the crown and a duty to fulfill her king’s wishes.

Mary tries to claim the will naming Jane was a forgery. Bess stands up and calls that a lie. She vouches for the will being authentic. Mary orders her to sit down. Bess refuses to sit and be silenced. She swears on her life and her father’s name that Edward named Jane Grey heir to the throne.

The crowd applauds Bess’s testimony. Mary is nearly apoplectic. She throws a tantrum, and Norfolk instructs the guard to take Jane out so Mary can’t attack her with her bare hands. The guards escort her to a bed chamber where Edward waits in hiding. He calls her name, and she is overjoyed to see him alive. 

Mad Mary

Mary storms down the corridor, followed by her entourage. Norfolk advises she place Jane under house arrest somewhere remote and grim. Mary refuses to let Jane live.

Seymour arrives then, pushing his way through the crowd. He orders everybody out. Once they are alone, he promises to fix everything. He’s just received information that will seal Jane’s fate. Before he tells Mary what he’s learned, he extorts a promise that she will marry him as soon as Jane’s dead.

Guys Just Wanna Rescue Someone

In the bed chamber, Edward wants Jane to let him return to the trial in her stead. He believes that if he shows he’s still alive, the people will reinstate him as king. Since everyone thinks he’s dead, Jane is sure that Mary will murder him and no one will care.

She is determined to return to the trial and hear her fate. If Edward wants to win back his throne, she advises him to do it properly and gather an army and allies. He hears the wisdom in this and shares his dream of outlawing Division Laws for good. They embrace, and he hides just as the guards return to retrieve Jane.

The Verdict

In the throne room, Norfolk reads the verdict on the charges of high treason. Jane is found innocent. The crowd cheers for the result. Jane can’t believe it. 

Outside, Edward crosses the courtyard to the sounds of the cheers from the throne room. He turns into a corridor and finds Fitz waiting for him. Fitz explains that he’s lived his whole life looking out for himself and his sister. Edward is walking quickly, trying to outpace Fitz. Fitz begs him to stop. They face each other, and Fitz tells Edward that his sister is in Seymour’s Ethian prison.

When Fitz witnessed Granny’s nun minion abducting Edward, he followed, thinking he could trade Edward for his sister.

Edward asks why he didn’t do that when they saw Seymour at the draw bridge. Fitz admits he couldn’t do it in the end. Edward kisses Fitz. Suddenly shy, Edward tries to exit the situation. Fitz reaches out and pulls him back for more kisses.

The Truth Is Outed

In the throne room, guards remove Jane’s manacles. The narrator foreshadows that happily ever after is not in the cards. Mary’s voice rings out, demanding everyone stop. She walks in, staring intently at Jane, and snaps her fingers. Seymour and his guards bring Rupert in wearing manacles. He’s been beaten badly. The guards throw him onto the floor in front of the throne. 

Seymour introduces him as Guildford Dudley’s groom. He kicks Rupert to get him to speak. Rupert declares that Guildford is Ethian. Seymour charges that Jane married an Ethian knowingly in violation of Division Laws. Mary reminds everyone that death is the only punishment for breaking Division Laws.

Guards bring Guildford in as a horse. Sunset is imminent. Mary times it to the second, and Guildford transforms in front of everyone. The guards secure him and bring him to his knees.

He and Jane face each other while the crowd erupts in anti-Ethian shouting and fear. Guildford says he’s sorry.
