Jane (Emily Bader) is spending her honeymoon in her room, alone, surrounded by books, researching a way to keep Guildford (Edward Bluemel) from changing into a horse every day at dawn as My Lady Jane Season 1 Episode 3, “With a Girl Like You.” The narrator notes that it’s not exactly how most honeymoons go and that it is rather lonely.

Guildford pokes his head in, surprised that she’s not asleep. She explains that she’s preparing for their next attempt. She asks him to describe the first time he changed. He refuses to talk about it even though she might be more successful if he shared that information.
My Lady Jane’s “With a Girl Like You”
As it is nearly dawn, he avoids the question again and tells her to get her things. They head to the barn. On the way, she reviews their progress or lack thereof. So far, they’ve struck out nine times. She suggests that instead of trying to eliminate his transformation ability, they look for a way to control it. He insists that he wants to be Verity, not Ethian. He sees it as a curse.
She mixes a concoction in the barn and applies it to his body. As dawn approaches, she speaks a Latin incantation. It doesn’t work, and Guildford transforms again. The narrator apologizes for raising our hopes.

Returning to the house, annoyed at her failure, Jane finds a ransom note on the door. Susannah (Máiréad Tyers) is in danger.
The Dungeon Life
At the Tower of London, Lord Dudley (Rob Brydon) is miserable in a cell someone regularly urinates into via a ventilation aperture. He pleads his case with his guard, who informs him he’s to be boiled alive on Friday for his crime.
Dudley insists he must speak to the king, believing Edward (Jordan Peters) is still in danger. The guard whispers that the rumor is the king’s already dead. Dudley immediately insists they must find the will. He pleads for someone to find his son, Stan.
A Peach or a Kitten
Jane runs into the house to ask the sarcastic housekeeper Bertie (Denise Black) for fifty pounds of currency to help her friend. Bertie redirects her to ask Guildford. Jane asks if she was this disrespectful to the late Lady Dudley. Bertie extensively describes the virtues of Guildford’s mother and begins to comment on Guildford’s feelings on her death but stops herself. Returning to the topic at hand, she refuses to help Jane and walks away.

In the palace, Princess Bess (Abbie Hern) demands to see her brother but is denied. The guard’s orders are that the king is not to be disturbed. She asks who set those orders.
In his bedchamber, Princess Mary (Kate O’Flynn) spanks a naked Lord Seymour (Dominic Cooper) with an iron gauntlet as he screams out, “The King is dead!” Bess knocks at the door. Seymour quickly dresses and sends her away, dismissing her concerns about the king.
Mary realizes Bess suspects something and wants to move quicker to announce the king’s death so she can be crowned. Seymour panics, then covers with an explanation that there’s a process they must follow.
Mary states that she doesn’t care about the process. If Seymour has the will and it names her, they should be able to take the throne immediately. Seymour assures her that he has the will, and it names her heir, which is a lie. She allows him a few more days to tie up loose ends, and they resume their spanking.

Where There’s a Will…
As Seymour crosses the courtyard, two guards attend him and report they cannot find the will. Seymour gives them a new assignment. They are to find and kill Lady Jane and Guildford Dudley.
Stan Dudley (Henry Ashton) arrives in his father’s cell. He explains that he couldn’t find the will. Lord Dudley is disappointed and changes tack. He needs an alibi, but Stan is no help.
Stan goes to find Lady Frances (Anna Chancellor) on her way from her house to her chapel with her daughters. He asks her to help his father, but she declines. Stan notices that Frances, Margaret (Robyn Betteridge), and Katherine (Isabella Brownson) are all dressed up and asks what they’re doing. Just then, the Duke of Leicester (Jim Broadbent) comes to the chapel’s door to greet his bride, Katherine.

There’s a Way
When Guildford returns to human form and arrives home for dinner, Jane shows him the note from The Pack, wanting fifty quid for Susannah’s release. Guildford tells her they can’t pay the ransom. She protests that they’ll slip Susannah’s throat and feels she’s to blame. Guildford clarifies that they literally can’t pay fifty pounds for anything or anyone. Lord Dudley’s deep in debt.
Jane is outraged that her marriage for money was for naught. She takes some of the silver candlesticks and plates from the Dudley house to exchange for Susannah.
Mary’s Power Play
In the throne room, Mary sits on the throne and announces that Edward will not live through the night. She shares that he commanded her as his heir to expand the Division Laws to eliminate the Ethian menace. Lord Wessex (Howard Saddler) challenges her right to sit on the throne before the king has died, and his will names her the heir. He further states that until she is queen, she cannot change laws.
Mary accepts his charge and points out his grandfather was a brave warrior. As a reward, she offers him Skipton Castle, something he’s coveted for a long time. He looks very happy as she dismisses the court. Before Bess can leave, Mary calls her to stay and tells her that, in a fit of delirium, Edward jumped out a window to his death. Shocked, Bess quietly acknowledges that Mary is now queen.

The Woods at Night
Jane walks through the woods with a satchel full of silverware. She hears someone following her and hides behind a tree. Holding a rock over her head, she jumps out with a scream, scaring the pants off of Guildford.
He offers to help her with a shortcut to the Ethian encampment and gives her some advice on arming herself, but she’s way ahead of him.
At the Grey’s castle, the Duke of Leicester toasts Katherine with a misogynistic tirade about female monarchs. Katherine excuses herself. Margaret catches her on the way out and tells her she can’t let Frances do this but Katherine’s resigned to her situation.
An Untoward Ethian Prison
At the palace, Seymour whistles as he makes his way down into his secret Ethian prison in the dungeons. He finds the Ethian forger he’s charged with copying a will in Edward’s hand, naming Mary the heir to the throne. The forger tells him he’ll need the royal seal. The will complete, Seymour tells the man he’s won his freedom. Before he can leave, Seymour directs him to transform into his Ethian form. He turns into a grasshopper, and Seymour stomps on him.

Seymour’s goons, Phillips (James Corrigan) and Hodgkins (Tom Morley), dress as peasants and knock on the Dudleys’ door. Bertie answers and tells them Guildford and Jane are out in the woods.
Out in the woods, Guildford tries to mansplain dagger etiquette, and Jane informs him she trained with the same swordmaster as Edward and could disarm him in fifteen seconds flat. Guildford demands a wager to put her skills to the test. She demands he honestly answer a question she’ll ask. He agrees and says he’ll expect the same from her if he wins. She agrees.
They fight. She wins. She asks him about the first time he changed. When he hesitates, she reminds him he promised. He tells her he lied.
Frances Makes Amends
At the wedding feast, Margaret berates Frances for selling Katherine to Leicester for financial security. Frances assures Margaret that she’ll make sure Leicester passes out before he can make his way to the wedding bed. When Margaret asks about the nights to follow, Frances sends her to her room.
Stan sidles in next to Frances and asks again for her help with Lord Dudley’s plight. She scoffs at the idea. Stan tries to offer some sexual pleasuring to sweeten her mood. She rebuffs him. He’s heartbroken at her callousness. She reminds him that she is his superior in every way and nothing he has to offer is needed now. He waves his codpiece in her direction, and she reconsiders. She sends him to her room to wait for her.

Jane accuses Guildford of getting them lost. He insists he knows the way. When he first changed, his father sent him into the woods to live for years so he’s intimately acquainted with them.
Jane explains why Susannah is so important to her. Guildford admits that friendship like that is truly rare. They continue onto the encampment and see Susannah walking around free and relaxed. Jane realizes they’ve been set up. When the other Ethians go to prepare for the ransom drop, Jane follows Susannah into her tent to confront her.
The True Injustice
With Guildford holding his weapon on her, Susannah insists that the ransom demand was necessary because the Ethians won’t survive another winter in the wild. The new Kingsland guards are hunting them down, torturing, and imprisoning them.
Guildford goes to wait outside while Jane and Susannah talk. Jane expresses her sense of betrayal because she thought they were friends. Susannah asks Jane if she remembers ever asking her about her family. Jane sits down and asks. Susannah tells her about her family throwing her out after she changed. The Pack saved her and found her work.

Jane gives her the satchel of silverware. They hear screaming from the woods. Guildford comes to fetch them. They follow the sound and find Phillips killing Susannah’s friends. They attract Phillips and Hodgkins’s attention as they try to escape. Susannah transforms and flies away.
Killing the Moment
The goons pursue Jane and Guildford. They catch them, and Phillips addresses Jane by name. Guildford disarms Phillips and wounds Hodgkins. He tells Jane to run while he fights the two men. Jane returns and knocks Phillips out with a large rock. She arms herself, and she and Guildford strike Hodgkins, causing him to flee, screaming, “Run away!” Phillips gets up and also runs away.
In the aftermath, Jane and Guildford drop their weapons and embrace each other. Back at the house, they continue to snog, but Jane breaks through the mood by asking for a divorce. Guildford agrees their relationship is madness. He leaves.
Margaret’s Mind
Margaret visits Katherine in her chambers and tells her that Leicester is passed out drunk. Katherine shares her hope that she will marry a husband she can love. Margaret is adamant that she’ll never let Frances choose her husband.

Guildford checks in on Jane. They discuss the fact the assassins knew their names. Guildford explains that the first time he changed was the same day his mother was murdered. That’s why he can’t talk about it. Jane says she understands. He leaves to return to the stable for dawn.
The day breaks on the remnants of the wedding feast. Margaret finds Leicester snoring on the floor. She shoves a pear in his mouth and holds his nose until he dies. Looking over her shoulder, she sees Katherine looking shocked, then grateful. Margaret rushes to Katherine’s side when Frances enters the hall.
Frances asks if they’ve seen Leicester. Spotting the body on the floor, she retrieves the pear, takes a bite, and urges the girls to hurry as they have a busy day.
It’s Go Time
The herald announces the king’s death in the palace. In her chambers, Mary tells Seymour to convene the council for the reading of the will.

The will is in Bess’s possession. She hesitates as to what to do with it. She asks Petunia what she’d do. Petunia grabs the will in her mouth and runs to the throne room.
In the throne room, Seymour presents Mary with the forged will. She notices it lacks the royal seal, but he insists everything will be fine.
Petunia enters and drops the will at the foot of the man at the door. Just as Seymour is about to read the forged will, the man announces he’s holding King Edward’s will. Bess arrives just then. The true will is opened, and the man is shocked.

Long Live Queen Jane
A royal messenger interrupts Jane at her studies. Bertie accompanies him, strangely deferential. He states the message is for her, not her husband.
When she asks about Edward. Bertie informs her the king is dead. Jane is stunned by the tragic news, gasping in sorrow. Bertie follows this up with the news that she’s been named heir to the crown.
