It’s happening, people! It’s happening! Today we got our first look at Liu Yifei in the live-action adaptation of Mulan. Thanks to Nerdist, we can see that she’s ready to take on her enemies with determination and a sword in hand. It’s so exciting!

When they announced that a live action Mulan film was in the works over at Disney, there was a cry of excitement and a grumble of uncertainty throughout the internet. Hua Mulan is a folk hero who has had many adaptations including plays, TV shows, films and literature. I love the photo. The sword is giving me life, to be honest. As a kid, I didn’t notice the difference between swords, but as I’m older, I can appreciate that they’re trying to be more accurate. (Granted I think it looks like a Qing Dynasty sword verses Wei – but I could be wrong!). I’m just so excited to see an entire Asian cast in a Hollywood film. And the story of Mulan is so inspiring, especially for women and girls, so I’m really looking forward to more from the film.
