After an unconventional year in which most TV shows didn’t come back from their summer hiatus due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, 2024 is starting strong, with most shows returning in the first three months of the year. Among those awaited returns are some of the most anticipated TV dramas.

Whether it’s a show returning for its last season, for its 25th season, or for the first time, these TV dramas promise to deliver great storylines and memorable characters. It is hard to narrow it down to just a few shows, but these 11 TV dramas should give viewers plenty to talk about, at least to start the winter season.

La Brea

La Brea returns to NBC on January 9 for its third and final season. This beloved cast returns to continue fending for themselves in 10,000 B.C. while they figure out how to make it back to 2021. This time, the members of the clearing will be running away from dinosaurs.

The show will hopefully deliver the fears and threats that made its first two seasons so beloved by the audience. Izzy, Gavin and Josh are some of the characters that return to help the final season tie all loose ends.

True Detective: Night Country

For fans of True Detective, True Detective: Night Country brings another rendition of the show with new detectives and a new story. The show will premiere on MAX on January 14, bringing Kali Reis and Jodie Foster as leading actors.

The show takes place in Alaska in a town that spends several weeks a year in total darkness 24 hours a day. Right before the last sunset before the long night, a group of men disappears, leaving behind only a shoe. This becomes the clue for the next case.

One Chicago

The One Chicago shows are returning to NBC on January 17, bringing some of our favorite characters back to the screen. Whether they’re running in and out of buildings on fire, working on trying to figure out a new diagnosis, or chasing criminals, these characters always keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. have been around long enough to be labeled as some of the best TV dramas. The shows offer action, drama, romance and different cases every week.

Law & Order

If a dose of One Chicago isn’t enough Dick Wolf content for one week, the Law & Order franchise has three more episodes premiering the next day (January 18). For three hours, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Organized Crime will take over the NBC screen.

The detectives and ADAs will do their best to solve different cases. Whether it involves a victim of sexual assault or an organized crime gang, these characters won’t rest until justice is served.

NCIS

January isn’t the only month bringing back some of our favorite TV dramas. NCIS starts the month of February, with its premiere on January 12 for its 21st season. Even though most of the original characters are gone, the newest members of the team are just as good at solving the cases.

For those who want a taste of the old-school NCIS, there’s still McGee and Dr. Palmer. For those who want to know what new characters bring to the show, there’s Agent Parker and Agent Knight.

FBI

If Dick Wolf’s dramas on NBC aren’t enough, CBS brings back FBI on February 13 for its sixth season. The show has seen several characters come and go, but OA Zidan, Maggie Bell and Jubal Valentine have constantly kept fans coming back for more.

FBI Season 6 is the leading show in the franchise, opening up the floor for the other two shows to premiere on the same day. FBI: International returns for its third season, and FBI: Most Wanted for its fifth season.

Blue Bloods

After over a decade, Blue Bloods returns on February 6 for its 14th and final season. The Reagan family (one of the most beloved TV drama families) will be on CBS for one last season to say goodbye to their fans and the long list of cases they’ve been solving since 2010.

This new season promises to deliver more family drama and intense cases, with Erin fighting on the side of the law and the Reagan brothers on the side of order. It’ll be interesting to see how they bring the show to an end.

The Equalizer

If The Equalizer movies are amongst your favorites or you crave action, The Equalizer — led by Queen Latifah— is definitely the TV drama for you. The show will return for its fourth season on February 18.

Like in the movies, Robyn McCall does her best to help those in need. She brings the action while Melody and Harry fight alongside her (sometimes behind the scenes). Now that Dante is fully aware of Robyn’s career, what will happen next?

9-1-1

Lucky for fans of 9-1-1, the show wasn’t canceled but rehomed, changing networks from FOX to ABC. The seventh season premieres March 14 in its new home, bringing back everyone’s favorite firefighting squad and Sergeant Athena Grant.

Every season premiere of 9-1-1 has started with a major catastrophe putting the team to the test. This time around, the newest trailer shows a sinking cruise. Is it the cruise on which Athena and Bobby were taking their vacation? How can the team help?

Many fans of Grey’s Anatomy were sad to watch Meredith Grey say goodbye. Lucky for them, this beloved character is making her return for Season 20 on March 14. With such a milestone season premiering this year, it makes sense that Dr. Grey is returning.

Season 20 will hopefully bring more drama among the newest interns, bring Link and Jo together, and keep Richard away from alcohol. All of these storylines, plus the crazy medical cases we see every year, are what will have us tuning into ABC in March.

On March 14, while Grey’s Anatomy fans tune in to welcome back a beloved character, Station 19 fans will be tuning in to start saying goodbye to some of the most memorable characters. The show is coming to an end with its seventh season.

Fans have taken to social media to try and save the show as they are not ready to say goodbye. Hopefully, the season will deliver enough storylines to keep them happy until it’s time to say goodbye.
