Ghostface
NetherRealm Studios released the official gameplay trailer for Ghostface in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns. The iconic serial killer is the main antagonist in the Scream horror film franchise. Known for wearing a ghoulish mask and wielding a large hunting knife, the serial killer has been terrifying teenagers since 1996.
Since then, the masked killer has appeared in seven films and a television series. Ghostface was embodied by many characters throughout the years, both male and female. However, for this article, I will refer to the character as “he.”

Ice Cold Killers
Ghostface shows off some murderous moves as he goes up against Sub-Zero. When they square up, the killer holds the voice changer infamously used in the films. He looks at his knife when another Ghostface appears to take over. As expected, there is a lot of stabbing, slicing, and dicing. Oh, and some epic Spartan kicks.
One particularly exciting move is when he pulls out his phone and calls his accomplice, who appears behind the opponent for a quick slice. Also unique is a move where Ghostface falls to the ground on his stomach and then crawls toward Sub-Zero, slicing at his legs. Finally, the killer stabs the opponent’s foot, and it looks like he is held in place while Ghostface gets a few more shots in.
Additionally, he can toss opponents around, which sets him up for serious aerial combos. A special move has Ghostface push Sub-Zero into the arms of a doppelganger who delivers a stab from behind.

Next Up, The Scream Queen
The next victim is Sindel, who Ghostface has heard has quite a scream. The killer phones a friend again, but this time, they sandwich Sindel between a barrage of shanks. Frost comes in with a powerful Kameo combo that uses her ice wall ability to trap the opponent between ice and Ghostface’s deadly blade.
Another impressive combo starts with a downward stab, then a backflip kick followed by another downward stab. Finally, my favorite move from the fight begins with Ghostface sprinting towards Sindel with his knife up. When he gets to her, he stabs her in the chest and back simultaneously, then lifts her off the ground.
Goodbye Geras
Ghostface loves that he can kill Geras again and again. That is very clear after Geras is tossed like a ragdoll and gets caught up in a stab combo. Interestingly, after a teleportation-type move, Ghostface throws some purple energy towards Geras, which knocks him back. This sets the killer up for a sick, windmill-looking move.

Out of nowhere, Ghostface throws a knife, rolls into a ball surrounded by purple energy, and shoots toward Geras like some sort of murderous Sonic the Hedgehog. When he gets to the victim, the killer kneels over his victim and goes for some heavy stomach stabs.
Fatalities, Animalities and More
Honestly, friends, the cutscene for the x-ray attack is too gruesome for me to describe in too much detail, but it involves a devastating slash from the forearm down, all the way down. The grand finale is a fatality featuring Johnny Cage, who is sitting on his couch playing Mortal Kombat 1 (the video game). He rage quits after getting his ass kicked by “a dude with a knife” while the real Ghostface creeps up from behind. Then, poor Johnny meets the same fate as so many others. Last but not least is the animality, where our creepy killer turns into a vulture, brutally spears the opponent, then enjoys a tasty snack.

No, Please Don’t Kill Me, Mr. Ghostface
The variety of this serial killer’s moves is scary impressive, and I didn’t even mention everything. His quick stabs and jabs make for deadly combos. I loved to see so many spot-on references to the films, like the crawling, sprinting, and tossing.
Ghostface’s fatality is ingenious, and kudos to everyone responsible for it. The developers truly embodied the spirit of the character. As of now, he is one of my favorite characters to watch, and I cannot wait to see how he plays.
Ghostface will be available as part of Kombat Pack 2, beginning with Early Access on November 16 and a full release on November 26. Get even more details, such as pricing, on the Mortal Kombat website.
