Sony released the first teaser trailer for Marvel’s Morbius on Monday. And while the trailer features some interesting footage of Michael Morbius’ transformation, the highlight had to be the end of the teaser. 

Morbius stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius.  Michael was born with a rare blood disease that caused him to walk with crutches.  Frail and very pale, Michael found the strength to study medicine and focused on finding a cure for himself and others like him.  In the trailer, he asks the questions, how far are you allowed to go to fix something that’s broken?

Michael finds…something.  All we know is he goes to a cave, cuts his hand and a wave of bats fly at him.  That’s when he transforms from sickly to strong and healthy.  But what is he.  He has super strength, super speed, and super hunger for blood.  

The big shocker is the last scene of the teaser.  Michael walks past Michael Keaton, who heckles the vampire a bit.  Is that Adrian Toomes a.k.a. Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming?   Is this the beginning of  the Sinister Six? Or is Keaton playing a new character? Sony has rights to the Spider-Man movies right now and there is a connection to Morbius, so…anything is possible. 

Morbius also stars Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. The film is based on the Marvel comic book. Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway wrote the script. Daniel Espinosa directed the film.  Louise Rosner executive produces with Matt Tolmac, Avi Arad, and Lucas Foster as producers.

What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.”

Morbius arrives in theaters Summer 2020.
