Misha Green‘s next project will be quite the action-packed one. As reported by Deadline, the Lovecraft Country creator has been tapped to write and direct Tomb Raider 2, the sequel to the 2018 action flick starring Alicia Vikander. Vikander is also reprising her role as Lara Croft for this next installment. The MGM film will mark Green’s feature directorial debut.
Green is the showrunner and executive producer of HBO’s Lovecraft County, which took the network by storm last year. It stars Jurnee Smollett, Jonathan Majors and Michael Kenneth Williams. Lovecraft Country follows Atticus (Majors) as he travels across 1950s America with his friend Letitia (Smollett) and uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) in search of his father. Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams serve as executive producers alongside Green. Additionally, Green co-created the 2016 WGN series Underground with Joe Pokaski. The show starred Aldis Hodge and Jurnee Smollett. Underground focused on the Underground Railroad and slavery while the United States was on the brink of the Civil War. The series garnered four NAACP Image Awards and a TCA for Outstanding New Program.

Recently, Green wrote and is producing The Mother, a female-led action thriller that’ll find its home on Netflix. In addition, she will pen the screenplay for Cleopatra Jones which will be a remake of the 1973 film of the same name starring Tamara Dobson.
Now, the first Tomb Raider movie with Vikander as Lara Croft premiered in 2018. It raked in roughly $275 million in international box office sales. Tomb Raider 2 will be produced by Graham King and Elizabeth Cantillon via GK Films and The Cantillon Company, respectively. Not much else is known about the project save for Green taking up the mantle of writer and director as well as Vikander returning.
Misha Green is already solidifying herself as a titan in the entertainment industry. She’s an immensely skilled writer and director. I’m excited to see her interpretation of the famous Tomb Raider.
