DISCLAIMER: This recap of Miracle Workers: End Times Season 4 Episode 3, “The MatriXXX,” contains spoilers. Proceed at your peril.
Welcome back, warlords and lone wanderers! It’s time to get freaky and sexy with episode three of Miracle Workers: End Times. The Miracle Workers series is no stranger to mining the depths of weirdness to yield some truly hilarious moments. Daniel Radcliffe lets loose this week (he always seems to have at least one moment per season where this happens) and really stretches his comedic muscles. It’s hysterical and utterly outrageous.
“The MatriXXX” boasts a simple premise, but sometimes that’s where Miracle Workers shines — by allowing the actors free rein to push the limits of these larger-than-life characters.
Ready to delve into “The MatriXXX”? Let’s get to it.

We open with Sid (Radcliffe) and Freya (Geraldine Viswanathan) in bed one evening. Freya reads a mint toothpaste box to prepare for her book club while Sid snuggles under the covers to sleep. Freya wonders aloud whether they should have sex. They haven’t seen each other naked in a while. Sid agrees, so Freya tops him. Unfortunately, they’ve got an audience in Scraps (Jon Bass) who, in true family canine fashion, wants to watch them go at it. This makes Sid uncomfortable. Freya claims Scraps doesn’t understand what they’re doing, but he knows … and he’s a fan.
Later, Sid gives Morris (Steve Buscemi) a rundown of his schedule. He informs the latter about the upcoming high school reunion for the Boomtown Bulldogs, chronicling 40 years since Morris graduated. Morris is unsure about attending. After all, he was a bona fide nerd in high school. They called him “Moaning Morris” because he moaned whenever the jocks beat on him. Sid encourages his boss to make an appearance. Morris is now a brilliant entrepreneur and business owner. Why not rub that in his former classmates’ faces?
Meanwhile, Scraps wages war with the local mailman. This part made me giggle as a dog owner. Tai (Karan Soni) gives Freya sex advice. She vents about her ultimate marital fear: that she and Sid will only go on dinner dates to keep things exciting. Tai offers to help Freya and Sid spice up their sex life in their marriage. He gets into some pretty kinky stuff as a robot. Morris arrives at his reunion to find all his classmates perished in the Boom. All that’s left of them are their skeletons and their name tags. Well, it looks like Morris won the game of life in this instance.

Later, Tai assumes the role of leather-clad sex therapist as he helps our fave warlord and her hubby work through their intimacy issues. He orders Freya and Sid to don their neural transmitters for an exercise. Suddenly, the trio winds up in a white space in their minds. Tai resembles Miracle Workers: End Times‘ version of Neo from The Matrix. More sci-fi homages! Then, Tai urges his friends to explore their deepest sexual fantasies. This a safe space. We learn Scraps is in Freya and Sid’s living room. He’s plunking around on the computer while keeping watch over their bodies.
Then, Morris tries to bury the hatchet with his high school bullies’ skeletons. It’s weird. He tries to punch one of them. Meanwhile, Sid and Freya delve into Freya’s sexual fantasy. Apparently, she gets off from torture. Sid appears, shirtless (Um, okay, Daniel Radcliffe. Welcome to the gun show.), and electrocutes Freya. She enjoys it a little too much. At one point, her hair catches on fire. Side note: Geraldine Viswanathan makes the funniest faces in this scene. Sid, who’s not a fan of torturing his beloved wife, emphatically shouts their safe word: boogie board. This brings them out of the fantasy.
Now, it’s time for Sid to divulge his secret fantasy. He’s attracted to boulders. Yes, you read that correctly. Boulders sexually turn on Sid. As strange as it is to Freya (and me), she indulges in his passion. Morris asks the skeleton of Misty, his high school crush, to dance. Things start to get hot and heavy (obviously).

We see Sid walk in on Freya wearing lingerie as she sits beside a boulder in their bed. It’s safe to say he’s already aroused. He urges Freya to kiss the boulder with him. She reluctantly obliges. At one point, Freya sits on the sidelines, reading her mint toothpaste box, while Sid goes to town on the boulder. She utters, “boogie board,” pulling them out of the fantasy. It’s getting too weird for her. Understandable.
Meanwhile, Scraps encounters that blasted mail carrier again. The last time, he threatened to kill said carrier; however, the man had the gall to reappear even after such a threat. Scraps chases the mailman and abandons his post, much to Freya and Sid’s dismay. So, now Sid and Freya are stuck in this white space mental limbo. Tai fabricates a feeble excuse to leave our couple in the dust.
Later, Morris’ dance with Misty takes a turn for the sexy. They bang it out behind the bleachers. Hey, just because she’s a skeleton doesn’t mean she can’t feel anything down there. What am I even typing? Freya and Sid talk about going on boring dinner dates as a couple. Even as they poke fun at the older couples in Boomtown who only get excitement from dinner dates, they wind up at a restaurant to do just that.

While on their date, sex transpires spontaneously and organically. Yes, right there on a restaurant table. Scraps, who resumed his supervising duties, notices his masters are going at it in their minds. Thanks, neural transmitters! When Scraps believes they’re finished, he removes the transmitters. Sid doesn’t like seeing Scraps’ face right after doing the deed with Freya.
Then, Freya and Sid admit to Tai that they rekindled their sex life by having a boring dinner date. Tai looks like he might explode at the thought. Morris reunites with the couple, looking like Buscemi on 30 Rock, when he says, “How do you do, fellow kids?” It’s the posture and the jacket slung over his shoulder that mimics the skateboard Buscemi has in that 30 Rock scene.
Anyway, Morris boasts about sexing up the skeleton of his high school crush. Not weird at all. Meanwhile, the mailman returns home to his family. His wife reveals their kids are on the way for a family gathering. He sits on his bed and gazes lovingly at a family photo. Next, a bullet pierces his head. Scraps emerges from his closet. He reminds the now-dead mailman that he vowed he’d kill him. And Scraps keeps his promises like the good boy he is.

Who wore the black leather Neo ensemble better: Tai or Keanu Reeves? Will Freya and Sid incorporate more boulder play in the bedroom? Will Scraps make it his mission to kill all the mail carriers in Boomtown? Only time (and more episodes) will tell.
