Welcome to this week’s installment of F2P Friday, where we highlight our favorite Free-2-Play games. Sometimes, hidden gems fall through the cracks. This is where we dig for you and feature a new F2P game we know you will enjoy every week. Today, we play Mingle, a shape-matching puzzle game about finding your other half.

The Basics

Let’s get down to the basics. Mingle was made by creator cookiecrayon for GMTK 2021 Game Jam. At its core Mingle is a matching puzzle game with a high-contrast visual style. The black symbols on the white background might seem like a flat art design choice at first, but each character pair has its own personality and varied style.

The puzzle aspect of the game is a simple matching mechanic that makes it accessible to gamers of all skill levels. The controls are also easy to learn with an intuitive play style. Navigating the game area is done with the arrow keys and merging into a matching shape is set to the space bar.

Why Should I Play?

So why should you play Mingle? I’d suggest this game to everyone. The concept is simple enough that anyone can pick it up, but the idea is interesting enough that the novice-level puzzle isn’t boring. The soundscaping is worth turning your volume up for with the charming, diverse crowd sound mixed over the music. It’s also a fast play, clocking in at just a few minutes for each round but it is well worth the time.
