Enola Holmes is on the case! Netflix’s Enola Holmes premiered a teaser trailer Monday morning on social media, Collider reports. Based on the novel The Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer, it centers around the precocious younger sister Enola and her elder brothers Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. We learned that Enola’s mother goes missing and she takes up the sleuthing mantle, inevitably outwitting her older brothers in solving the mystery.
Now, Millie Bobby Brown is set to play the titular character of Enola Holmes. Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin play Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes, respectively. Critically lauded screenwriter Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The Aeronauts) has penned the script while director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag) is at the helm.
As for Brown, she’s best known for her work as the supernaturally gifted Eleven in Netflix’s Stranger Things. Cavill recently starred as the multifaceted Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher. Claflin had a recurring role in yet another Netflix series Peaky Blinders.
The teaser trailer is a brief clip comprised of scenes from the impending film. We hear various characters from the movie calling out for Enola and hailing her as equally gifted as her male counterparts. Even Helena Bonham Carter and Fiona Shaw make appearances. At the end of said clip, we see Enola Holmes herself shrouded in a cloak and cheekily proclaiming “‘Tis I!” in response.
My humble opinion? Enola Holmes boasts a wonderful cast and the costumes are intricately breathtaking. It’s a Sherlock-adjacent story that we haven’t seen before on screen. Here’s hoping it properly honors the source material and gives us a brief respite from the troublesome hellscape that is 2020.
Below, you can take a gander at the teaser trailer for yourself. Enola Holmes stars Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Sam Claflin, Helena Bonham Carter, Fiona Shaw, and Frances de la Tour. Expect Enola to be sleuth-ready September 23rd, only on Netflix.
