Mike Colter, long rumored to be cast as title character Luke Cage in the Netflix/ Marvel original series, has been confirmed. GGA’s Matt Key is on vacation right now and is not able to report this. In fact, I received a text about an hour ago that he was at the movies “watching The Hobbit with family.” Awwwwwwwww, Christmas nerd times are awesome. I’m sure he got the Luke Cage alert when Smaug was facing Bard the Bow Man and didn’t quite know what to do!

So who is Mike Colter? Colter is an actor with a healthy resume. He’s been see on the small screen in The Good Wife, American Horror Story and The Following.

And Luke Cage? Here’s what Matt Key has said about the superhero:

Luke Cage (aka Power Man) is a hero who has super strength, unbreakable skin and an abrasive, alpha male, don’t-mess-with-me attitude totally reminiscent of characters like Shaft. The word right now is that his character would come in half way through the season and co-star in most episodes from there on out until he gets his own show after Jessica Jones.

Matt was right about how Luke Cage will be introduced. Here’s what The Hollywood Reporter had to say:

Colter will make his Marvel universe debut with the recurring role opposite Krysten Ritter in Jessica Jones — the second of four dramas picked up straight to series — before being spun off to topline the Luke Cage show. He’ll eventually team with Daredevil‘s Charlie CoxRitter and the uncast Iron Fist in mini The Defenders to conclude all four stories. Twilight‘s Melissa Rosenberg will oversee Jessica Jones.

Netflix is set to role out their Marvel adventures beginning in May 2015 with Daredevil.
