Things are about to get turned upside down in Lilydusk‘s Midnight Poppy Land. When Poppy makes a rather gruesome discovery in the countryside, she becomes entangled with a young Mafia lord and his rather terrifying bodyguard. But rather than running away, Poppy finds herself slowly drawn to the secrets of the dangerous underworld within her city and closer to Tora. But is he willing to let her? Does he really have a choice?

I don’t know how I have made it through 52 installments of Saturday Morning Webtoons without talking about Midnight Poppy Land. But I love this WEBTOON series. It has everything I love in a webcomic, including romance, mystery, suspense and a large underground mafia world. The banter between Tora and Poppy is some of the best I have seen and I read a lot of romance novels. I can’t wait to see just where Lilydusk will take this story.

The second series is Deya Muniz and Emily Erdos‘ Blades of Furry. It follows Emile, an up-and-coming skater in Sakte Battles. This is a high-stakes combo of figure skating and martial arts. What more do you need? During an unfortunate match with Radu, a well-known senior skater and multi-champion, Emile learns a secret about the winner that could threaten to destroy him. Will Emile expose Radu, or will the secret turn this rivalry into something more?

If you are a fan of Netflix’s Beastars, then Blades of Furry might just be right up your alley. I have a background in martial arts and have always wanted to be better at ice skating (I look like a newborn giraffe learning to walk) and just reading that in the description hooked me. Toss in the rivalry/relationship between Emile and Radu and you have yourself a fantastic read. The story and art make for an excellent read and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
