According to Deadline, Michael K Williams‘ role has been cut out of the Han Solo film. Amid all the reshooting problems, scheduling has been one of the biggest. And that’s no different in this case. The damned reshoots!
According to Williams himself, since he’s on location in Africa, he’s unable to attend any reshoots in London. So instead of butchering his character, they’ve decided to cut him completely.
I felt great about what I created with the directors that I worked with [but] it is what it is. When Ron Howard got hired to finish out the film, there were some reshoot issues that needed to be done in regards to my character, in order for it to match the new direction which the producers wanted Ron to carry the film in. And that would have required me on a plane a month ago to London, to Pinewood, to do reshoots. But I’m here, on location in Africa. It’s scheduling. I’m not going to be back on the market until the end of November after [his SundanceTV series] Hap and Leonard, and for them to wait that long for me, that would have pushed back the release date, which I believe is in May 2018. They wanted me now; I couldn’t go. So they had to clip-clip-clip.

While we still have no plot or character details pertaining to the film, Williams was able to share a little bit about his character. Apparently he played a “half human, half animal” which he dubbed k*ckass and noted that he was proud of the character. Despite being cut, he feels that there’s a chance for him to return to the galaxy far, far away and hopes they feel the same way.
I don’t think that me not being in the Star Wars family is final. I left with a very good taste in my mouth about the whole family, and I hope that I left a good taste in their mouth. They’re a great group of people, the Lucas family.
Fingers crossed we get to see his character in a deleted scene or some sort of extra footage. I’m just dying to know what the character is like! Alas, it’s sad news but hopeful. We hope to see Williams back!
