Netflix is rolling out the originals with a new take on the superhero genre in Raising Dion from Michael B. Jordan. The nine episode series is based on the comic created by Dennis Liu, about an eight year old boy who develops super powers.
Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) is raising her son Dion (Ja’Siah Young) alone after the death of her husband Mark (Jordan). When Dion’s powers manifest, Nicole has to find a way to help him control them. Of course there is a government organization looking for people with abilities. And from the looks of it, other superpower forces are interested in Dion as well.
The series also stars Jason Ritter, Jazmyn Simon, and Sammi Haney. The show is produced by Jordan’s Outlier Society Productions. Liu and Jordan executive produce with showrunner Carol Barbee.
Here is the synopsis:
Raising Dion follows the story of a woman named Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), who raises her son Dion (newcomer Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Jason Ritter), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.
Raising Dion debuts on Friday October 4 on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
