2019 is coming to a close, however gore hounds already have plenty of spooky films to look forward to in 2020. We’ve got the latest addition to The Grudge franchise, The Turning inspired by 1898 horror novella by Henry James and, one I’m super pumped about, Scoot Cooper’s Antlers.
Inspired by the short story The Quiet Boy by Nick Antosca, Antlers follows a small town teacher (Keri Russell) and the local sheriff (Jesse Plemons) who discover that a young boy (Jeremy T. Thomas) is keeping a bizarre creature in his home. In this final trailer we finally get a proper look at the expertly teased monster; the mythological Wendigo. The Wendigo is a man eating creature from the folklore of the Native American Algonquian tribes.

The creature is often described as grotesque, though none of the descriptions are quite as poetic as the description Basil H. Johnston, an Ojibwe teacher and scholar, gives on the monster to the Minnesota Historical Society Press: “The Wendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tightly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash-gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Wendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody … Unclean and suffering from suppuration of the flesh, the Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption.”
Seems pretty accurate as the trailer unfolds and viewers see the boy’s terrifying secret come to light when it escapes to wreak havoc on a small town. Check out the blood trail below!
