Vanity Fair released an exclusive teaser for The Mandalorian. It has some footage we’ve seen but plenty we have not. Most notably, Ming-Na Wen’s character Fennec Shand. And, surprise, Wen looks bad*ass — but when doesn’t she?
The teaser is a short 30 seconds but we see some new diaglogue and at the end we see of close up of Shand saying, “Your name will be legendary” to the who we think is The Mandalorian.
Wen told Vanity Fair that the idea for the name, Fennec Shand, comes from the fennec fox. “She’s tricky, and yet she’s able to maneuver and survive, and be stealthy—so very graceful and agile. I just love that whole image with the name.”
When asked if Shand, who made her name being an assassin for the galaxy’s top crime syndicates, if she was light side or dark side, Wen replied, “I think that remains to be seen.”
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian, Gina Carano as Cara Dune, a former Rebel shocktrooper, and Carl Weathers as Greef Carga, the leader of a bounty hunter guild. It also stars Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, Taika Waititi, Bill Burr, Ming-Na Wen and Mark Boone Junior.
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. “The Mandalorian” is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian debuts on Disney+ on November 12th, 2019.
