The production of Wonder Woman 1984 has been spoiling us so much. Today, director Patty Jenkins released a still of Kristen Wiig as Barbara Ann Minerva. You may not recognize that name but you know the persona she takes on. Cheetah.
In the still we see Barbara staring longingly (or maybe sadly) at the animals on display in a museum. She looks a little bit frumpy, possibly showing that she’s actually innocent. While we haven’t heard what her character will be like in the film, we have hints from the comics.
Barbara Ann Minerva is a British archaeologist who has a knack for getting any artifact she wants. Even going to extreme lengths to get them. In the latest comic iteration, she was being worshiped as a god in the jungles of Africa, stuck in her Cheetah form. As a child was actually obsessed with learning about the Amazons, wanting to prove that the female warriors actually existed. She had become a friend of Diana and works together with her.
While we don’t think that will happen in the film, as she has been advertised as the villain, it’s an exciting premise. Since we don’t know much – we can theorize, right? I think she’ll start as a friend, turn antagonist and turn back into friend by the end of the film. Because Diana still believes that love is the way to save the world. Why not believe that her own love can help Barbara? Of course this is all a theory but we’ll have to wait to see what’s going on (for far too long!) Fingers crossed we see Pedro Pascal next!
