Maya Erskine will soon be traveling from early aughts middle school to a galaxy far, far away! The PEN15 star has signed on to appear in Disney Plus’ highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Deadline exclusively reports. In addition, Deadline reveals that Erskine will have a supporting role, appearing in at least three episodes. As per Disney’s strict “no spoilers” code of conduct, details regarding Erskine’s part are being kept under wraps.

Now, it was reported last month that 10 cast members have been added to Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s roster alongside star Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen. Joel Edgerton, Indira Varma, Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, Bonnie Piesse, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie and O’Shea Jackson Jr. will join the fray. However, like Erskine, their roles are unknown. That being said, speculations are circulating the web that Edgerton could be portraying Luke Skywalker’s uncle, Owen Lars. Deborah Chow will be at the helm. Joby Harold will take up the mantle of series writer.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will purportedly take place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith and nine years prior to A New Hope. We’ll see an “era after the Jedi Order has been all but wiped out.” Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, teased that a “rematch of the century” will transpire. I think it’s safe to assume that this will be between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader.
Erskine co-created Hulu’s PEN15 alongside Anna Konkle and Sam Zvibleman. Erskine and Konkle star as two best friends navigating the harsh waters of middle school in the early aughts. PEN15 was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in 2019. Erskine’s other credits include Plus One, Casual, Insecure and Big Mouth. She can be seen next in the upcoming feature Sacramento opposite Michael Angarano and Michael Cera.
Personally, I’m pumped that Maya Erskine is joining Obi-Wan Kenobi in some capacity. She’s an incredibly gifted and versatile actress. I’m excited to see her work her magic in a different genre beyond comedy. Bring it on!
Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently in pre-production. It’ll consist of six hour-long episodes.
