Still of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford in Star Wars: A New Hope

It’s Star Wars Day, which means I’m legally obligated to tell you the following: May the 4th be with you! We at GGA are avid fans of the trailblazing sci-fi franchise that molded the genre as we know it today. So, besides binge watching everything related to a galaxy far, far away, how are you celebrating Star Wars Day?

Well, I’d like to share my 10 favorite inspirational Star Wars quotes. I believe we could all use a mental boosting right now. Quarantine is forcing us to question the concept of time. Whether it’s hygienically sound to wear the same sweatpants for five consecutive days. Can one really construct an edible sandwich with mismatched products in one’s refrigerator? Anyway, I think these little nuggets of inspiration may help alleviate those quarantine blues. Perhaps provide some perspective and drive a wedge into the monotony of our new day-to-day.

“Hope is like the sun. If you only believe in it when you can see it, you’ll never make it through the night.” – Leia Organa

The above is my favorite Star Wars quote. Hands own. If you’ll recall, we first learned of this Leia (Carrie Fisher) gem in Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Of course, “hope” is embedded in General Organa’s entire persona. She epitomizes hope to so many people – myself included.

“Do or do not…there is no try.” – Yoda

I can’t tell you how many times my Dad would utter this line to teenage Melody. Now, adult Melody is grateful for this sage advice – whether it’s coming from an actual human male or a tiny old green dude. Luke (Mark Hamill) was taught this valuable lesson while training with Yoda (Frank Oz).

“Your eyes can deceive you. Don’t trust them.” – Obi-Wan Kenobi

I know mine are definitely deceiving me because I do not have 20/20 vision. Forget that whole “seeing is believing” malarkey. Sometimes deception can burrow itself in visualization. If anyone understood this valuable piece of wisdom, it was Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Instead, one should rely on their instincts. And the Force, naturally.

Still of Yoda

“Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” – Yoda

Haters gonna hate! You can rest easy in the fact that said haters are internally suffering from shouldering such a poisonous mindset. Yoda always knows exactly what we need to hear! Why not try on happiness for size? Or just ingest some positivity pills?

“I find your lack of faith disturbing.” – Darth Vader

Yeah, yeah, I know. Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) is evil incarnate. However, poor Anakin was merely a hapless soul gone astray prior to joining the Dark Side. But the man is on to something here – sometimes you gotta have faith. Just ask George Michael! There’s nothing wrong with striking the perfect balance between faith and knowledge.

Still of Darth Vader

“Never tell me the odds.” – Han Solo

Sometimes you need to forge ahead blindly – like in Bird Box, but hopefully without the blindfold and horrifying foes. Who wants to know the outcome, anyway? The surprise is part of the journey. You’ll find personal growth can lie in the most unexpected of places. Han Solo (Harrison Ford) loves surprises, y’all!

“Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.” – Yoda

That Yoda is chock full of sage wisdom for such a little fellow. However, there’s a reason he’s the most quoted Star Wars character. He knows his sh*t. Well, that and he’s also over 900 years old. He’s had centuries to acquire wisdom and understanding that expands beyond his galaxy far, far away. Letting go of fear is so crucial to your evolution as a person. Well, and in whatever you’re pursuing.

“The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.” – Qui-Gon Jinn

Just because you can vomit up a convoluted word salad doesn’t mean you’re intelligent. A lot of people harbor an expansive vocabulary while running the gamut in idiotic decision-making. Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) taught us one of the wisest lessons of all when he said this.

Still of Ashoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars

“This is a new day. A new beginning.” – Ashoka Tano

Now, this thought should cross your mind every morning. Acknowledge that you’re breathing and that yesterday’s mistakes are behind you. Time to start with a clean slate. There’s something about hitting the “restart” button that’s so reassuring. We’re given another opportunity to excel, to right wrongs, and to enforce vital changes. Ashoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein) knows a thing or two about a thing or two.

“Sometimes we must let go of our pride and do what is asked of us.” – Anakin Skywalker

Anakin (Hayden Christensen) may have been struggling with the urge to go all “Dark Side,” but the aforementioned still rings true. We humans often succumb to pride and we allow that to be our downfall. Sometimes we need to relinquish our pride and simply complete the task set before us. Pride comes before the fall, after all.
