Matthew Macfadyen has his next gig lined up after the final season of Succession. As reported by Deadline, the Emmy-winning star of the HBO mega-hit drama is poised to join Ryan Reynolds in Marvel’s Deadpool 3. According to Deadline‘s sources, Macfadyen’s part is currently unknown. In addition to Reynolds and Macfadyen, Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine, with The Crown‘s Emma Corrin in an undisclosed role and, potentially, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al.
Shawn Levy is at the helm for Deadpool 3, with Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese penning the script. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin wrote an earlier draft of said script. As of now, we don’t have a premise for the flick. It marks Wade Wilson/Deadpool’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Wolverine’s first appearance beyond the 20th Century Fox Marvel movies.

Deadpool premiered on February 12, 2016. It grossed $783.1 million at the global box office and became the highest-grossing X-Men film. Deadpool 2 came hot on its heels two years later, debuting on May 18, 2018. The movie raked in $785.8 million globally, making it the seventh most profitable feature for that year.
Matthew Macfadyen stars as Tom Wambsgans in Succession, a role that garnered him an Emmy nod in 2018 and a win in 2022. The fourth and final season is currently airing. Macfadyen is also known for playing Mr. Darcy in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, Daniel in the 2007 comedy Death at a Funeral, Detective Inspector Edmund Reid in BBC’s Ripper Street and Oblonsky in 2012’s Anna Karenina. He can next be seen in the thriller Holland, Michigan, opposite Nicole Kidman, which is in production.

Matthew Macfadyen is a brilliant actor, and while he’s not someone I expected to pop up in a Marvel movie, I’m curious to see what he brings to the table.
