Matt Reeves had picked up the helm of The Batman in February but things have been relatively quiet. We haven’t heard much from the director about his thoughts. In speaking with LA Daily News about his latest franchise, War of the Planet of the Apes, he gave us a quick comment.

Reeves is still too busy working on the latest Apes installment to be thinking about The Batman. But, he was able to share a comment on his thoughts and feelings. “I just was obsessed with Batman when I was a kid. What I find so interesting about him as a character is that, as far a superhero goes, he’s not superhuman, he is a person. And he is a tortured soul who is grappling with his past and trying to find a way to be in a world that has a lot that’s wrong with it and trying to find a way to reconcile all of that.”

While we know Batman to be the most brooding of superheroes, it’s great to hear that Reeves thinks of the psychological first. We know his past, we know he’s strong, but how does he deal with the world? So we may be getting something akin to The Dark Knight rather than Batman v Superman. And I am all aboard the idea of  balancing the action with psychological depth rather than punchfest 2.0.
