Clem Fandango can’t be heard from across the pond! According to DeadlineMatt Berry‘s Toast of London has been picked up by the BBC for a new iteration. This time, Steven Toast is going to Hollywood!

Now, Toast of Tinseltown is the working title for the six-part comedy series. It’ll see the arrogant, larger-than-life actor making a bid for stardom in the City of Angels. Toast of London initially aired on Channel 4 on August 20, 2012. It ran for three seasons. Berry co-wrote the program alongside Arthur Mathews. The show follows Steven Toast (Berry), a middle-aged actor in London’s entertainment industry. We see him attempting to carve out a name for himself with the aid of his eccentric agent Jane Plough (Doon Mackichan) and his roommate Ed Howzer-Black (Robert Bathurst).

Of course, every show needs a good antagonist. Ray Purchase (Harry Peacock) is the foil to Toast’s every career shift as the pair incessantly compete for parts. Additionally, Toast of London boasts musical numbers written and performed by Berry himself. In 2015, Berry won a BAFTA for his work as Steven Toast.

Both Berry and Mathews made remarks regarding Toast of London‘s move to the BBC. Berry believed that Toast would “very much approve” of the series finding a new home. “Hollywood is a brave new world for Toast. There will be triumphs and tribulations (but mostly tribulations — and indeed humiliations),” Mathews said.

Most people know Berry as the pompous Laszlo Cravensworth in FX’s What We Do in the Shadows. His other credits include Todd Rivers/Dr. Lucien Sanchez in Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, Douglas Reynholm in The IT Crowd and Detective Inspector Eli Rabbit in Year of the Rabbit

Nothing is known about Toast of Tinseltown in terms of plot or whether the supporting cast i.e. Mackichan, Bathurst or Peacock will reprise their respective roles.

Toast of London was a pleasant Netflix discovery for me. I’m an avid fan of anything Berry puts out. Toast’s trek to Hollywood is the logical next step in his quest for global acting domination.
