It’s time to check out episode four of Netflix and Kevin Smith‘s series Masters of the Universe: Revelation! We are over the halfway mark for part one of this two-part series and Teela (voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar) and the group have reached the gates of Subternia. In episode four, “Land of the Dead,” Teela is separated from the rest of the group and faces a sinister entity who offers her half of the Sword of Power in exchange for her fears.
DISCLAIMER: This, my friends, is a recap and, by nature, will include major spoilers. I highly suggest watching Masters of the Universe: Revelation first before diving into these. Binge all five episodes here!
“Land of the Dead” opens as Orko (voicehttps://www.geekgirlauthority.com/tag/masters-of-the-universe-revelation-the-most-dangerous-man-in-eternia-recapd by Griffin Newman) tells the others a folktale about Subternia. Just as he is finishing, a green glow floats towards them and Teela realizes that everyone has gone missing. A voice calls out to her and she makes her way down a green-lit path.
We then see Evil-Lyn (voiced by Lena Headey) and Orko in Trolla. Orka thinks they might be dead, but Evil-Lyn realizes that they are in an illusion. Orko tries to cast a spell to see where the others may be but ends up lighting a nest on fire instead. They decide to head off to find someone who can help them. We then jump to Beast Man (voiced by Kevin Michael), Andra (voiced by Tiffany Smith) and Roboto (voiced by Justin Long), who have been transported to an unknown place.
Teela continues down the path when she finally comes face to face with Scare Glow (voiced by Tony Todd). She explains that she is looking for one-half of the Sword of Power. He knows exactly what she is looking for and will hand it over, but in return, he wants her fear. Of course, Teela doesn’t fear anything – or so she thought. She agrees to give him her fear for the sword and the safe return of her companions. Teela is then dropped into the Well of Darkness. She needs to survive and conquer her fears or spend the rest of her life trapped within Subteria as Scare Glow’s prize.

“Land of the Dead” jumps back to Orko and Evil-Lyn. As they are exploring, Orko realizes that everyone is gone and the Spellspring, the source of all Trollan magic and life force, has run dry. He realizes that he is the last living Trollan in the entire universe. This is hard on Orko, who is slowly coming to terms that this might not be an illusion at all. He even shares with Evil-Lyn that his parents expected the greatest from him as a child and even named him Oracle.
However, he learned quickly that he wasn’t like the others and struggled to use the magic he possessed. He was happy that the name Orko stuck, believing that people would laugh more if they called him Oracle. Evil-Lyn tries to make him feel better and the two even share a laugh. That is until the spirits of all the dead Trollans form a terrifying large creature.
We flashback to Teela for a moment who is waiting rather impatiently for this whole ordeal to begin when He-Man (voiced by Chris Wood) approaches and draws his sword. We then jump to Andra, Roboto and Beast Man, who are battling it out with Shadow Beasts. The creatures take the shape of what they fear most. Orko and Evil-Lyn seem to be dealing with the same things as they race towards safety. Evil-Lyn seems to be running out of power and Orko is so down on himself he is afraid casting a spell will just make things worse.

In the Teela fight, she is holding her own against He-Man, who beings to taunt her about how he never shared his secret with her because he didn’t believe she was worthy of knowing. Teela knows this isn’t the real He-Man and we get a sense that this is her inner emotions talking. Why she feels like Prince Adam kept the secret from her. The figure then transforms into her and it realizes that Teela is afraid of her own fate and that she is something more than ordinary.
It transforms again and this time, we see that it has been Scare Glow all along. But Teela understands now what is happening. During this, she has learned to control her fears and use them to manifest what she wants. She calls upon the sword and even taps into a mysterious power. At the same time, we see as the other two groups use light to break out of their illusions. They find Teela crawling out of a pit with the Sword. Evil-Lyn casts a spell and opens up the gate to Preternia.
Before they are able to escape, Scare Glow finds them with the intention of keeping every one of them in Subternia. Having opened the gate, Evil-Lyn is out of magic and the others are trapped by rocks. Just before rocks crush them, Orko is able to stop and send them flying at Scare Glow. He stays behind and uses the last of his magic to stop Scare Glow, seemingly dying in the process.
In Preternia, Teela and Anda accuse Evil-Lyn of not doing enough to help save Orko. She even draws her sword for battle. That is until a voice calls out to her. “Land of the Dead” comes to a close as Adam finds them.

Well, I don’t know if I was emotionally prepared for this episode of Masters of the Universe: Revelation. I knew the team’s trip into Subternia wasn’t going to go smoothly. But I didn’t expect to lose Orko. Or seemingly lose Orko. There is still a chance that he might be alive. I’ve come to the conclusion that with Netflix shows that no body means no confirmation. (I’m looking at you, Stranger Things!)
And man, right after that, we find Adam in Preternia! Finally, Teela gets to face the man with the big secret. The one person she couldn’t lash out at in the moment because he was dead. But what will happen? Will she forgive him? Will they fight? Is it really him or another illusion? I’ve got many questions, and we only have one more episode in part one to figure them out. So now is the time to jump into episode five.

I was looking for more images from the episode. I feel that this one ties back to the new She-Ra episode Reunion where they meet Bow’s dads. They(Evil-Lynn and Orko) look to be in a similar archive/library down to the big. Lie monster egg/balls.
The background and designs look very similar. Could it be that on each plane at an archive room exists that links to each other?
