Masters of the Universe: Revelation

We have two episodes left in Netflix and Kevin Smith‘s Masters of the Universe: Revelation. In the previous one, we saw another major plot twist that has us scared to the core. How will our heroes deal with this one? And what about that unlikely ally? In episode nine, Hope, For a Destination, Teela (voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar) tries to manifest her powers to call for aid while Adam (voiced by Chris Wood) partners up with this unlikely ally.

DISCLAIMER: This, my friends, is a recap and, by nature, will include major spoilers. I highly suggest watching Masters of the Universe: Revelation first before diving into these. Binge all five episodes here!

Hope, For a Destination, picks up soon after we left off. Teela is attempting to manifest her powers to call out to Eternia for aid. Andra (voiced by Tiffany Smith) has been trying to find another way to break through Evil-Lyn’s (voiced by Lena Headey) blocks, but she can’t figure it out. Teela is frustrated with the magic and not being able to tap into it and just wants to go back to her old ways. King Randor (voiced by Diedrich Bader), Queen Marlena (voiced by Alicia Silverstone) and even Cringer (voiced by Stephen Root) all voice their support for her and know she can figure this out.

In the command room, we find Prince Adam chatting it up with their new ally, Skeletor (voiced by Mark Hamill). Skeletor fills Adam in on what Evil-Lyn is up to, including her eventual idea of destroying the universe. I like how we see some growth in Skeletor here as he realizes that he is partly (if not mostly) to blame for her current mission. He unwillingly admits that the only way to put an end to Evil-Lyn is for the two of them to band together. But Prince Adam isn’t willing to call down the power without a sword to temper it. But, he does have another idea and while Skeletor might be mocking Adam with the idea that they just ask nicely –  it seems that it is exactly what they are going to do.

At Castle Grayskull, Beast Man (voiced by Kevin Michael) watches on as Evil-Lyn continues to dive into the Celestial Apex. Within, she sees a vision of the death of Zorn at the beginning of time. It gives fuel to her belief that the world should come to an end. This is not what Beast Man meant when he told Evil-Lyn she needed to escape Skeletor’s control. She is much meaner and angrier at the world and even threatens to turn on Beast Man too. It would seem she is corrupted with power. Before Evil-Lyn can turn Beast Man into her battle dog, horns sound outside of Castle Grayskull.

Outside, Evil-Lyn finds Skeletor and Prince Adam alone. She invites them in while Teela and Andra sneak in below. They eventually run into a guard and while Teela and Andra are fighting below, Adam and Skeletor try the peaceful route above. But, Evil-Lyn isn’t interested in peace talks and it looks like they are going to get into a fight too. It seems like Adam and Skeletor are just playing decoy for Teela and Andra. Their mission? To free Man-At-Arms (voiced by Liam Cunningham). But the most dangerous man in Eternia doesn’t need to be broken out. He has the Orlax to help him!

Upstairs, Adam and Skeletor go head to head with Evil-Lyn in what is one of my favorite fights of this series. If the two had only worked together sooner, things might have been much more different for Eternia. But, even with their powers combined, they still aren’t enough for Evil-Lyn in her god form. Poor Panthor gets a front-row look at what she is truly capable of. Everyone, take a moment to pray that we can undo that. Panthor didn’t deserve it.

Back down below, Man-At-Arms fill Teela and Andra in on what has been happening and how he managed to escape. Man-At-Arms gives Teela a little pep talk and lets her know that her message worked. It’s a tearful moment before he sends her down to face her fate while he and Andra hold off the henchman.

Hope, For a Destination, reveals that just outside of Castle Grayskull, King Randor and his army lay in wait for their time to attack. Randor and Marlena have a moment where they forgive each other before the rest of Eternia arrive to help defend their world. It seems like everyone isn’t fond of what Evil-Lyn has planned for this world and are ready to lay their lives down.

Inside Castle Grayskull, Teela finds the Sorceress room where we first saw her mother at the beginning of the season. Down below, a vision of the Sorceress (voiced by Susan Eisenberg) who fills Teela in about what would be expected of her if she were to tether herself to the role of Sorceress. Teela would need to give up everything from the moral world just like she did. Teela has the power to save the entire universe, but she needs to give up everyone and everything in return.

Upstairs, the battle between Evil-Lyn and Adam and Skeletor continues. Beast Man joins the fray after being transformed by Evil-Lyn in order to protect her. But, Cringer gets in the way to protect Adam and we hear a crunch. Not sure what that crunch means, but it stops everyone in their tracks. Evil-Lyn uses this moment to drag Skeletor to her and reveals just how much she wants to kill him, but that it would never be enough. We do see a quick shot of Cringer trying to wrestle from Beast Man’s grip, so he seems fine for now.

But, what is even more terrifying is that Evil-Lyn’s ultimate goal is to unmake existence so she can finally put an end to Skeletor. He took everything from her and abused her over the years and now she is here to take everything away from him. Just as she begins to kick off the end of the world, she spots Randor’s army and all of Eternia. Evil-Lyn decides that before she is ready to do away with Skeletor and Adam, she will stop this planetary uprising.

Hope, For a Destination, comes to a close as Evil-Lyn calls upon the forces of Subternia to come to fight by her side and we see Scare Glow (voiced by Tony Todd) arise in Eternia. Let the final battle begin!

I have been wondering how Masters of the Universe: Revelation would reach this final battle. What would be the catalyst for bringing Scare Glow and Subternia to this realm? I thought it would have been Skeletor, but now that Evil-Lyn is in control of the power, it is clear to see that she is the one calling all the shots. But for how long? Will Teela throw away her entire life to become the new Sorceress and put an end to Evil-Lyn? Or will she choose a different path? We’ve got one more episode left, and I feel it is going to be a big one.

Get ready, folks, because we are heading into the end game!
