Ward (Tom Pelphrey) wakes up from a fitful sleep and struggles to sit up. He can’t move. It seems the hospital staff restrained him during the night. He glances to the corner of the room where Harold (David Wenham) hovers in the dark. “I’m so hungry,” Harold says, creeping toward the bed. He holds a knife tightly in his fingers. Ward snaps out of his dream in a panic. However, his nurses won’t listen to him. “This too shall pass,” one of the women says, before shutting the door firmly behind her.
Later, Ward once again wakes from a dream to see yet another villainous figure hovering above him. This time, it’s Bakuto (Ramon Rodriguez). “You’ve been poisoned by Madame Gao’s (Wai Ching Ho) synthetic heroin,” he says, injecting Ward with a mystery drug. While the two men talk, the battle lines in the story become clear. Bakuto wants to take down Harold, and he needs Ward on his side.
Meanwhile, it seems there’s still discord among the members of Team Iron Fist, as Colleen and Davos can’t make peace. However, much to Davos’ annoyance, Danny’s loyalty is firmly back with Colleen, who is ready to take down the Hand. Angry at his friend’s continual lack of loyalty, Davos storms off.
Later, Joy (Jessica Stroup) sits with Harold in the penthouse, quietly reflecting on their last months together before he lost his battle with cancer. Just as Joy tells her father that the Meachum’s should make up for lost time, they’re interrupted by Ward. The siblings embrace warmly. However, Ward wants to speak with his sister alone. Joy looks over her shoulder, unsure what to think as her brother tries to pull her toward the elevator. It seems he’s desperate to save her from everything Harold put him through. A fight breaks out between father and son as the emotional Ward pulls a gun. He’s getting Joy away from this, now.
However, as the elevator doors open, Bakuto and his henchmen step inside the penthouse. It turns out, Ward planned to turn Harold over to The Hand. Bakuto looks them over, “You people are a mess. I know a good family therapist should any of you survive the night…”.
Meanwhile, Danny (Finn Jones) and Colleen (Jessica Henwick) get themselves cleaned up after their night at the Hand’s factory. However, Danny stops as he receives a phone call. Flipping open his phone, it’s a video chat from Bakuto. Danny watches in horror as Bakuto shoots Joy in the stomach while Harold and Ward watch helplessly. As Bakuto prepares to behead Harold, Danny sprints toward the door. He’s not loosing another family to The Hand.
With Danny in the wind somewhere, tension grows at the Meachum penthouse. Joy lays on the couch, bleeding profusely as a panicked Ward works over her. With Harold’s death seeming imminent, he makes peace with his family. Rather, Harold reminds his son that he is the biggest disappointment he’s ever had. Harold expresses regret at initially choosing Ward over Joy. He finally shifts his glance back to Bakuto, “I’m ready”. As Bakuto raises his sword, Danny suddenly bursts through the door. He willingly surrenders, and is lead from the room.
There’s an agonizingly slow walk to the exit as Danny struggles to center his chi. Repeated shots of his clenched fist spell out what he’s trying to do. Soon, his fist glows to life, and a ferocious Danny bursts from his handcuffs. However, just as he throws a punch, the light goes out. In a moment of stellar timing, Colleen and Davos (Sacha Dhawan) burst in and a fight breaks out.
As Team Iron Fist is victorious against the group of henchmen, Bakuto runs. The chase scene is brief, culminating in a Central Park confrontation. Davos and Danny can only watch as Colleen faces off against her former sensei. As Colleen raises her sword to land a killing blow, she stops. She can’t kill him.
However, Davos doesn’t agree. He pounces on her hesitation, and plunges his knife into Bakuto’s chest, killing him almost instantly. Davos glances back to Danny, “You’re not a warrior… you’re a failure!”. Suddenly, the tension between the two men escalates and they fight. That is until Davos runs off into the night, leaving Colleen and Danny by themselves. However, Colleen quickly turns around, “Holy shit…”. As Danny turns to look, Bakuto’s body is missing.
Meanwhile, Ward and Harold carry the unconscious Joy into the hospital. “I forgot how disgusting people are,” Harold tells Ward as they sit down in the waiting room. While they talk, Harold changes his plan. It seems the Iron Fist served his purpose.
At the same time, Colleen and Danny return to the dojo. Things seem to have righted themselves for the moment, and the two share a kiss as they climb upstairs.
However, as Colleen and Danny mediate, his phone chimes once again. Looking down, he has a text message from Ward.
GET OUT! THEY’RE COMING FOR YOU!
They barely have time to react before armed soldiers burst through the door. Together they fight them off, but are quickly forced to flee the dojo.
