Marvel’s INHUMANS Coming to a TV Near You Fall 2017

No, I don’t mean the Inhumans currently appearing in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, I mean a brand new, mini series featuring new Inhuman characters.  Well, new to TV, not to comics.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Inhumans will debut the first two episodes in IMAX theaters during the 2017 summer season.  During the fall, those same two episodes will air on ABC with 6 additional episodes to follow.  THR also reports the series will be filmed entirely with IMAX cameras.

Well, that sure is some news that I wasn’t expecting.  When Marvel originally announced its feature film slate through 2020, Inhumans appeared in 2018, then pushed to 2019, until finally removed from the schedule entirely.  While Marvel has repeatedly said the movie is not dead, there wasn’t much hope among fans considering SHIELD has tackled, and continues to tackle, the subject extensively.

All of that being said, Marvel has positioned the Inhumans to take the place of the more well known X-men.  Since FOX owns the right to most, if not all, the Mutants, no Marvel show or movie can even say the word Mutant.  Which left Marvel in an interesting predicament given the runaway success of the movies.  Their answer was to bring the Inhumans to the forefront and label anyone that doesn’t fall under that umbrella as “enhanced”.   Neatly sidestepping the issue of calling anyone a Mutant.

The series is set to feature Black Bolt, the King of the Inhumans in the Marvel Comic Universe, and the royal family.  Exposed to the Terrigen Mist while in the womb, Blackagar Boltagon was born with powers and could use them from birth.

If they stick to this basic premise, we may finally get an on screen Medusa which, frankly, I’ve been dying to see.  Hopefully it’s not going to end up as the early life of Black Bolt and, if it does, hopefully Medusa will still make an appearance.  It would be terrible waste if they don’t feature her.

With the Inhumans getting their own series, even if it is limited, I feel as if their chance to make it to the big screen is further diminished given the current cold war between Marvel Television and the MCU.  Maybe I’m wrong, only time will tell.

Black Bolt has the ability to unleash great destructive power through the use of his voice, but even the slightest whisper will release his power. Therefore, for the most part, he remains silent.

Medusa, his wife, can control the rate of growth and movement of each strand of her tougher-than-steel hair individually. She maintains this control even when the hair has been cut from her head.
