Hawkeye may have found Kate Bishop in Hailee Steinfeld. THR is reporting that Steinfeld is in early talks to star opposite Jeremy Renner in the Disney+ Marvel series.
Kate Bishop is a young hero trained by Clint Barton (Renner) to fight crime with a bow and arrow. She debuted in Marvel comics in 2005’s Young Avengers No. 1. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung created the character, as an amateur athlete who joined the Young Avengers. The Young Avengers were inspired by the Avengers to become heroes. In the 2012 Hawkeye comic, Bishop began training with Barton and eventually took up the Hawkeye mantle in 2017.
Steinfeld made her debut in 2010’s True Grit that earned her an Oscar nomination. She has a background in action films, staring in Bumblebee, a Transformers spinoff movie and she’s technically already a member of the Marvel family. Steinfeld voiced Spider-Gwen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse this year.
Hawkeye is one of four spinoff series from the Avengers that include The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki. She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel are also in the works. The series are expected to be six to eight episodes. All are produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige. Jonathan Igla is writing and producing Hawkeye.
I think Steinfeld is a great fit. She’s obviously a talented actress with a flair for action. And she’s kind of funny. I think she’ll bring a lot of young viewers with her, while Renner brings the die-hard Avenger’s fans.
Hawkeye is scheduled to premiere in 2021 on Disney+.
