With Age of Ultron out in theaters absorbing the equivalent of a small country’s GDP and Civil War and Doctor Strange well under way, it’s time to start looking forward to 2017 and beyond. Apparently, Marvel wants Selma director, Ava DuVernay to be a part of that future.
According to to a report out of The Wrap, “Marvel is courting” the filmmaker “to direct one of its diverse superhero movies, which include Black Panther and Captain Marvel.”
As the site reports,
“Marvel has had discussions with DuVernay about taking the reins of one of its marquee comic book properties and while the studio is considering other directors, there is mutual interest in having her join the MCU.”
Should DuVernay be hired, she would be both the first African American director and the first female director for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She first came on to the scene with the 2008 documentary “This is Life,” though her big break came in 2012 with “Middle of Nowhere,” which got her the job on Selma.

Black Panther comes out in 2018, starring Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, a.k.a. The Black Panther and the Prince of the highly secretive and highly advanced Kingdom of Wakanda.
Captain Marvel comes out that same year and tells the story of Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, who’s DNA becomes entangled with that of a Kree, endowing the hero with super powers. Carol Danvers has not yet been cast.
