He’s back! D23 Expo 2022 delivered the first trailer for Marvel’s Secret Invasion, a highly anticipated mini-series featuring the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. This trailer is a doozy, so feel free to sit down while you watch.
Plot-wise, we know Nick Fury will team with Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), first introduced in Captain Marvel, to stop the Skrulls. The Skrulls have infiltrated our world, and it’s up to good ole Fury to put an end to their destruction.
In the trailer, we glimpse the other star players in Secret Invasion, including Colbie Smulders reprising her role as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman returning as Everett K. Ross and Don Cheadle back in action as the legendary James Rhodes/War Machine.
In addition to the returning favorites, we have the newbies — Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, Carmen Ejogo, Christopher McDonald and Killian Scott. As of now, we don’t know who the above are playing. Based on the trailer, it seems Ben-Adir might portray a Skrull.
The series hails from creator Kyle Bradstreet, with Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim at the directing helm.
Firstly, this cast is unequivocally stacked. Olivia Colman and Kingsley Ben-Adir are absolute titans of their craft, while Emilia Clarke is another incredible performer with plenty of experience in the genre sphere. I’m excited to see our old faves returning, and glad Nick Fury is getting the spotlight he deserves.
Secret Invasion seems like the thriller antidote to Marvel’s knee-jerk penchant for quippy comedy, and I’m here for it. Watch the trailer below before I spoil everything, and tune in for the ride of a lifetime when the series hits Disney Plus in 2023.
