She’s here, Marvel fans! Entertainment Weekly unveiled an exclusive image on Thursday from Hawkeye, featuring Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop and Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton. Not only do we have this first-look photo, but we’ve also got a premiere date for the highly anticipated Disney Plus series!
Now, Hawkeye will serve as the mega streamer’s first live-action foray since Loki. The show won’t just be an outlet for one of the original Avengers, but it’ll introduce fresh blood in the form of a young archer. Here’s what Renner had to say regarding Kate:
[Kate is] a 22-year-old kid and she’s a big Hawkeye fan. She has a wonderfully annoying and equally charming manner about her, because she’s such a fangirl of Hawkeye. The relationship grows from that, but the biggest problem for Clint is Kate Bishop and the onslaught of problems that she brings into his life.
This will mark Kate Bishop’s official MCU debut. The character first made a comic book splash in the 2000s with Young Avengers. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung created her. Initially, Clint perished in the comics, so Kate took up the Hawkeye mantle. However, he was later revived. The duo eventually fought together.
Renner, an MCU veteran, took the time to mentor Steinfeld just as Clint mentors Kate.
That was always my role. Outside of acting in the thing, I was protecting her and giving her the CliffsNotes on how it goes with this kind of filmmaking: Green screen, superhero life, all that stuff. I just wanted to protect her, because there’s a lot of physical stuff. She’s a wonderful actress, a wonderful human and I can’t wait to see all the cool stuff that she’s able to do.
I’m excited to see these two on screen together! Remember the end-credit scene in Black Widow? We’ll actually get to watch Yelena (Florence Pugh) seek vengeance for Natasha’s death on Hawkeye! Bring it all on, I say.
