Marvel’s about to get spooky! Deadline reports that Laura Donnelly (The Nevers) will join Gael García Bernal in an untitled Marvel Halloween special for Disney Plus!
While plot and character details remain under wraps, as is Marvel’s modus operandi, it’s speculated Bernal might portray a character based on Werewolf by Night. Werewolf by Night can transform into a werewolf while retaining human intelligence.

Deadline speculates Donnelly could be playing Nina Price, who becomes Vampire by Night. She’s the niece of Jack Russell/Werewolf by Night and a hybrid of the two supernatural creatures. Of course, this theory would work best in practice if Bernal is indeed Werewolf by Night.
Production for the Marvel Halloween special should begin in the coming months. Disney’s 2022 slate of live-action Marvel shows includes She-Hulk starring Tatiana Maslany, Ms. Marvel with Iman Vellani and Moon Knight with Oscar Isaac in the titular role.
Donnelly is most known for her role as Amalia True in HBO’s fantasy outing, The Nevers, which premiered on April 11, 2021, with the remainder of Season One scheduled for this year. Her other credits include Jenny Fraser on Outlander, a recurring role as Hella on Britannia and Sarah Kay on the Gillian Anderson-led crime thriller The Fall. She also appeared as Mabel Tolkien in 2019’s bio feature Tolkien opposite Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins.
Bernal starred in the critically lauded Prime Video series Mozart in the Jungle as Rodrigo De Souza from 2014 to 2018. He recently had top billing as Guy in 2021’s horror drama Old, helmed by M. Night Shyamalan. Bernal currently stars in Station Eleven as Arthur Leander, now streaming on HBO Max. He’ll appear opposite Jennifer Lopez in The Mother, an action-thriller to debut this year.
I’m a Marvel fiend — I’ll watch anything they release. I’m intrigued by a Halloween special from the entertainment juggernaut, and, so far, I’m digging this cast.
