“Why didn’t you guys help fight Thanos? Or any war or all the other terrible things that have happened throughout history?” Dane Whitman (Kit Harrington) pulls no punches in the final trailer for Marvel’s Eternals, which dropped early Thursday morning.
We finally get an answer to that question from Gemma Chan‘s Sersi. The Eternals were instructed to steer clear of human matters unless Deviants were involved. She goes on to provide a bit of backstory for our protagonists. The Celestials sent the Eternals to Earth 7,000 years ago to protect humans from the Deviants (If you recall, Ego was revealed to be a Celestial in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2).

Now, we also learn from Ajak (Salma Hayek) that the Emergence is nigh, an apocalyptic event catalyzed by the Avengers bringing back those Thanos snapped in Avengers: Endgame. The Eternals have a week to banish the threat or flee.
However, judging by the trailer, our heroes will definitely stay and fight. As you can see in the almost 3-minute video, the visuals are absolutely stunning. Ethereal, even. Bolstered by a stirring score, beautiful cinematography and badass costumes, Eternals is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most ambitious outings yet.
Eternals stars Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kit Harrington, Brian Tyree Henry, Barry Keoghan, Kumail Nanjiani, Don Lee, Lauren Ridloff, Lia McHugh, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie, under the direction of Chloé Zhao. Witness a new era unfold when the film soars into theaters on November 5.
