In a Tweet sent on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, the official Marvel Studios Twitter account announced the autumnal release dates for Loki season 2 and Echo season 1 on Disney+. The Tweet reveals a Friday release date for at least the first episode of Loki season 2. Furthermore, the Tweet revealed a simultaneous release for all episodes of Echo season 1, unprecedented for a Disney+ MCU release.

Friday: Not Just Tony’s A.I.

The first Marvel Cinematic Universe series, WandaVision, debuted with 3 episodes on Disney+ on Friday, January 15, 2021. New episodes of the series continued to be released on Fridays. Episodes of the next MCU series to be released for streaming on Disney+, The Falcon and the Winter Solider season 1, were also released on Fridays. However, when the MCU show after that arrived, things went a little bit differently.

New episodes of Loki season 1 were released on Wednesday rather than on Friday. This set a precedent that subsequent Disney+ MCU shows have followed.  In order to advertise the development, a special announcement was released on YouTube starring none other than Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston. The video explained the arrival of the Trickster God entailed that “Wednesdays are the new Fridays.”

The new status quo was so enduring that even the as-of-yet unreleased Secret Invasion will continue to release on Wednesdays beginning June 21, 2023. Among other things, Wednesday releases do mean new releases of the Disney+ MCU shows coincide with the day that new issues of Marvel Comics arrive at your Local Comic Shop.

However, the return of the God of Mischief must come with another shakeup to the status quo. As such, the premiere of Loki season 2 will be released on Friday, October 6, 2023. Perhaps subsequent episode releases of Loki season 2 will also take place on Friday. Meanwhile, every episode of Echo season 1 will be released simultaneously on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
