Collage of Marvel shows going to Disney Plus

Marvel fans, today is a good day. Deadline reports The Defenders franchise, including DaredevilJessica JonesLuke CageIron Fist and The Defenders limited series, is moving to Disney Plus. But that’s not all! We’re also getting The Punisher and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!

Last month, we learned the rights to Netflix’s Marvel properties would return to Disney, with the live-action shows departing the mega-streamer on March 1.

Speculation flooded social media, with fans wondering whether Hulu would take up the Marvel mantle since The Defenders series are rated TV-MA. That said, the shift to Disney Plus makes more sense as every other Marvel program, live-action and animated, resides there (with some exceptions like Hit-Monkey and M.O.D.O.K.).

To accommodate the addition of these TV-MA-rated series, Disney Plus will update its Parental Controls in the United States. According to Deadline, these updates were made internationally, including Star, which features Hulu, FX and other Disney properties.

Daredevil marked the beginning of the Netflix Marvel era with its April 2015 debut, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered on ABC in September 2013 as Marvel’s first foray into live-action. Jessica Jones was hot on Daredevil‘s heels with a November 2015 premiere, with Luke Cage debuting in September 2016 and Iron Fist in March 2017, respectively. These culminated in The Defenders, which featured all four Netflix street-level heroes, with an August 2017 premiere.

The Punisher became a spinoff from Daredevil, featuring Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle as the titular grim vigilante. The series debuted in November 2017 and ran for two seasons.

More rumors circulated the internet grapevine when Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin returned to the MCU in last year’s Hawkeye, and Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in Sony’s Marvel blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home. Since it’s abundantly clear Marvel plans to reboot Daredevil in some form, could that mean the other programs might follow suit?

You can watch all of the above on Wednesday, March 16, at their new home on Disney Plus.
