The Armor Wars team is assembling! Deadline reports that Black Monday scribe Yassir Lester will serve as the head writer for the highly anticipated Marvel series, wherein Don Cheadle stars as James Rhodes/War Machine.
In addition, Deadline reveals plot details are being kept under wraps, “other than the question being raised, ‘What would happen if Tony Stark’s technology fell into the wrong hands?'” Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, will be one of the show’s producers. As of now, no director is attached to the project since it’s still in the early development stage.
Lester and Cheadle have collaborated on Showtime’s Black Monday, where the former is an executive story editor and the latter plays the role of Mo Monroe. Lester also portrays Yassir X in the series. Armor Wars‘ newly crowned head writer is also a stand-up comedian and actor. His other writing credits include HBO’s Girls, The Carmichael Show and NBC’s Keenan. Lester lends his voice to Yangzi on Fox’s animated comedy, Duncanville.
Armor Wars is one of the new shows announced by Marvel for Disney Investor Day in December. So far, Disney Plus’s latest live-action MCU offerings — WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki — have proven to be quite successful for the streaming giant. Not only have they exceeded audience expectations, but they’re critically acclaimed. WandaVision has been nominated for a whopping 23 Emmys.
I’m so stoked about Armor Wars and the addition of Yassir Lester! Bring it on! I know he’ll knock it out of the Marvel park.
